Polysomnographic Technologist (full-time or part-time)
South Portland, Maine
The Maine Sleep Center at Chest Medicine Associates, an AASM-accredited facility, is currently hiring a Polysomnographic Technologist or Technician (full-time or part-time) to expand our services.
Requirements of the Polysomnographic Technologist- For Polysomnographic Technologists, certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) or RRT-SDS credential is required.
- For Polysomnographic Technicians, enrollment in a polysomnographic technology program, or 6 months experience as a sleep trainee with completion of A-STEP and documented proficiency in all required competencies.
- Pediatric experience is desirable.
- Minimum 1 year of experience and PSG scoring proficiency.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification is required.
- Excellent clinical, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities of the Polysomnographic Technologist:- Review the patient’s history and verify the medical order.
- Verify patient identification, collect documents, and obtain consent for the study.
- Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
- Follow sleep center protocols or physician order.
- Explain the procedure and orient the patient for in-center testing.
- Provide age-appropriate patient education.
- Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust if necessary.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to protocol or generally accepted standards.
- Perform diagnostic polysomnography.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
- Perform CPAP/Bi-level/ASV/VAPS titration studies.
- Perform MSLT/MWT.
- Score studies in accordance with AASM standards.
- Properly clean and disinfect equipment.
