Lightedge’s Senior Virtualization Engineer will require expertise around Virtualization products, with a special emphasis on VMware NSX and Nutanix Flow technologies. This kind of work typically includes the configuration and troubleshooting of complex network, security, and cloud hosted services and the development of supporting documentation.
Responsibilities - Fundamental understanding of market-leading virtualization products (VMware, Nutanix, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Provide remote virtualization support and administration
- May provide on-site datacenter equipment installation
- Ability to identify and advise on incidents related to client services
- Accept escalated service requests and incidents from virtualization team peers
- Provide mentorship and guidance for new team members
- Effectively communicate project status to stakeholders
- Complete all design documentation, including equipment configuration, quickly and completely
- following a project completion
- Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
- Development of preliminary deployment guides for new products in coordination with product
- Engineering
- Review documentation for accuracy and work toward automation of processes with the DevOps team
- Provide quality assurance review for service delivery team peers before service release
- Contribute toward collaborative sessions during interdepartmental discussions
- Representative for virtualization Team on strategic projects and product development
- Additional internal projects / work as assigned by management
- Minimum 40 hours/week required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications- 3 years as a Virtualization Engineer or:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, a related discipline, relevant certifications, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 7+ years and a strong understanding in two or more of the following areas of expertise:
Networking – VMware NSX, Nutanix Flow
Security – Experience with hardware & software firewalls, load balancers
Virtualization – Nutanix (preferred), VMware (preferred), HyperV
Public Cloud – Exposure to AWS, Azure, OCI, PowerVS, etc.
Storage / Backups – image / agent based, iSCSI provisioning, etc.
- Experience working in a datacenter or managed service provider
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience working and opening trouble tickets with vendors and / or telecom carriers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for work in a collaborative team environment
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to multi-task and operate with minimal supervision, adjusting priorities accordingly
- Able to maintain professional demeanor under stress
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new and adapt to changes in technology
