The Linux Foundation is looking for a Director of Marketing Communications to develop and execute on strategic marketing initiatives to support exciting open source projects. This individual will play a key role in leading strategy and execution of marketing and communications plans for projects including OpenSearch.
This role provides an opportunity to drive engagement, adoption and awareness for the open source OpenSearch project. You’ll be responsible for developing the marketing framework for OpenSearch, overseeing a team of marketing and communications professionals and will be supported by an expanded team of creative, event and content and community engagement professionals. This individual will work closely with the foundation leadership team, general board and marketing committee.
Responsibilities:
Manage overall marketing team and budget for open source projects, including OpenSearch, and liaise with LF marketing, education, and events leadership counterparts.
Partner with Leadership and VP of BD on campaigns to support membership sales.
Help to develop and maintain audience personas to guide the strategic development and creation of relevant technical content, including user stories, tutorials, case studies, webinars, whitepapers, monthly newsletters, and presentations.
Understand developer marketing and have experience communicating with developers through various channels and events.
Collaborate in the creation of messaging for business and technical audiences for the project.
Understand and develop strategies for community marketing.
Develop and maintain a steady stream of new leads generated through marketing activity for member sales enablement activities. Organize and manage hand-offs to the LF sales team.
Define the right blend of top, middle and end of funnel activities to drive membership, event tickets, and community growth. Ensure metrics are tracked and reported.
Oversee marketing and communications teams - dedicated, LF services, and external - to ensure flawless execution of all activities.
Co-lead the work of the OpenSearch marketing committee and increase member engagement by building trust-based relationships.
Ability to travel internationally to support project events and organizational offsite meetings.
Mentor and develop junior marketing staff.
12-15 years of marketing and communications experience in technical environments.
Knowledge of OpenSearch and its ecosystem, including areas of full-text search, vector search, observability and analytics, preferred
Demonstrated excellence managing large-scale projects and cross-functional teams
Demonstrated success in leading and executing marketing & communications strategy, advancing goals and KPIs
Understanding of unique approaches to identifying, engaging and energizing external technical communities
Proven campaign success promoting and supporting products that have software developers as a customer.
Ability to engage and positively influence multiple internal teams in an agency-style, service-oriented environment.
Experience with and/or understanding of the open source software ecosystem.
Degree in marketing, communications, computer science along with relevant experience

Salary $139,000 - $161,000 USD.
