We are seeking Generator Mechanics/Technicians for one of our project sites located near Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut.
Job Requirements:
MATRIX is looking for experienced Journeyperson ticketed Generator Mechanics that are team oriented, adaptable, highly motivated, with acute attention for details. You will play a key role at our remote camps by supporting the team and ensuring that all of the site electrical power generating equipment is properly maintained and serviced. This position reports to the Team Lead and/or Camp Manager. CAT diesel generations equipment experience is desired, This position will be working in a remote camp in Nunavut. This is a fly-in/fly-out position, on a 21 day rotation.
Responsibilities:
- Keeps power generating equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
- leads in rebuilding/overhauling all types of generator sets.
- Designs fuel supply systems for installations, helps junior colleagues in forming power generator stations, including fuel tanks, pumps, piping, electrical switch gears and similar.
- Perform engine starting battery voltage cell resistance and conductance tests, back pressure regulating valve checks, check day tank operation, check diesel fuel pump controls for proper operation.
- Perform accurate complex mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairs to engines, subassemblies, fuel systems, tank monitoring and leak detection systems in a safe and timely manner.
- Provide in- service training to other employees on maintenance and repair of Emergency Power Supply.
- Perform preventive and remedial Maintenance, troubleshooting, user support, on-site equipment repair, installation/removal, system operations, and scheduled maintenance of Diesel Generators and Environmental Control Units
- Work with system developers and system end-users to analyze, review, and identify problems.
- Recommend system modifications to improve system/sub-system product quality.
- Reduce architecture/design failures, improve system uptime, and recommend enhancements and modifications to improve current and future system performance.
- Performs all hands on routine inspection, preventative maintenance, condition monitoring, troubleshoots, corrective and emergency repairs on Caterpillar generator sets and associated local control systems.
- Must be familiar with the base power systems, high voltage input circuits, transformers, and transfer switches, both automatic and manual.
- Must perform all oil changes, change filters and keep areas clean.
- Must be able to check fuel flow, inspect, repair and/or replace batteries.
- Maintain engines in clean and working order at all times.
- Capable of troubleshooting and decipher problems, both mechanical & electrical
- Willing to work in remote sites outside of a shop.
- Arctic experience would be an asset.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Facilitate and or participate in daily tool box meetings.
- Ensure work environment meets corporate safety practices.
- Report unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor.

Preferred Licensing & Certifications:
- Journeyperson-Certified Mechanical/Interprovincial Red Seal Certification.
- A minimum 3-5 years power generation equipment care and maintenance experience.
- Previous experience working in remote camp setting, is highly desired.

$700/day - $850/day depending on skills, experience and certifications.
