Position Summary
The Director of Sales will spearhead the growth of Metergy’s submetering hardware business in North America. Reporting to the General Manager, Hardware, and collaborating closely with the hardware leadership team, you will implement the sales strategy and drive business development initiatives to enhance our reputation and revenue in the Canadian and US markets. Leading a small team of account managers, you will cultivate and sustain long-term, credible relationships with submetering service providers, real estate builders and property owners. Additionally, you will take on the role of “player/coach” to open doors and support client pitches and negotiations for complex submetering solutions. In this role, you will provide valuable insights on market trends and go-to-market opportunities, informing Metergy’s product strategy, positioning, and overarching direction.
Sales Leadership- Develop and execute the sales strategy to increase revenue across product lines in the North American market. Meet or exceed annual sales targets in both volume and profitability.
- Create wins and drive account growth by presenting our hardware solutions and capabilities to prospective and existing clients, clearly articulating our value proposition, differentiators, and ROI.
- Partner with Account Managers to develop inroads into new, prospective accounts and strengthen existing client relationships.
- Provide leadership support to the sales team throughout the complete sales process, demonstrating successful client analysis, qualification, presentation, and proposal of solutions.
- Act as the Player/Coach, leading by example while building your book of business and enhancing our company reputation and brand in the markets we serve. Open doors and actively support your team in client pitches and negotiations.
- Identify potential strategic partners, alliances, and relationships to increase the deployment of Metergy products in North America markets. Optimize the value and results from strategic partners and channels.
- Provide client and market feedback to the Hardware Leadership Team and identify opportunities to enhance our products and revenue streams.
- Establish annual business development budgets, sales KPIs, targets, and strategic plans. Forecast and report against targets and projections with support from the sales operations team.
- Use data-driven insights to optimize sales and marketing strategies.
Client Relationship Management- Focus on forging, deepening, and nurturing client relationships.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Revenue Officer, General Manager, Canadian President, and Account Managers in establishing and managing these client relationships.
- Lead the critical stages of sales and contract discussions, playing a key role in closing deals with new and existing clients.
Deal Pricing, Proposals, and Negotiation- Contribute to pricing strategies and models for core products.
- Participate in critical stages of sales discussions, helping the sales team close deals.
- Provide pricing approvals within the defined approval matrix.
- For large or complex solutions outside defined parameters, work in partnership with the Chief Revenue Officer, General Manager, Canadian President, and Finance team.
- Ensure solution pricing reflects desired profitability and growth outcomes linked to your Sales Incentive Plan. Validate that contractual terms reflect desired business outcomes.
Marketing & Product Development- Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase brand awareness and lead generation.
- Oversee the creation of marketing collateral, digital campaigns, and promotional materials.
- Leverage the corporate marketing team to create client materials and support proposals.
- Use market research and customer feedback to enhance marketing and product strategies.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all channels.
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies.
- Provide insights for product development and enhancements based on market demands.
- Work with the product team to effectively communicate product features and benefits
Leadership- Join the hardware leadership team and provide input on overall business direction.
- Build a high-performing team through effective mentoring and coaching, driving sales process efficiencies, and establishing scalable processes.
- Bring structure and elevate the overall accountability of the sales organization.
- Drive high engagement scores within your team and be a culture leader within the organization.
- Build strong, healthy working relationships with peers and across teams (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, installations) to deliver successful outcomes.
- Grow your sales organization to match the market opportunity.
Requirements- Post-secondary degree in business, applied sciences, or a related field of study and practice.
- 7+ years of sales experience in rapidly scaling businesses offering highly technical products to the real estate, utility, or infrastructure industry sectors. Familiarity with submetering, utility management, or related industries is highly desirable.
- Proven sales executive with the drive and hustle to deliver growth strategies, wins, and targets.
- Business development mindset with a demonstrated track record of building new businesses and exceeding sales objectives.
- Consultative sales approach, leveraging market knowledge and understanding of client business challenges.
