Auxiliary Cook

The Auxiliary Cook will participate fully in the high quality production of food products and service from the back of house (Kitchen operation) guiding the operation and supporting team members.  Currently the Auxiliary dining locations include the Tavern on the Tee at the Ralph Myhre Golf course and the Tavern at the Bowl at the Snowbowl in Hancock.  This position reports to the Assistant Manager of Auxiliary Dining. 

This is a full time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $19.26 - $23.59 per hour. Shift differential is available for eligible shifts and can amount to a higher wage per hour.

  • Weekend differential: An additional $1.00 per hour
  • Evening Differential: An additional $1.50 per hour

Core Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
  • Lead in food production work includes cutting vegetables, meats and cheeses, some oven and toaster work
  • Know and comply consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures. Observe proper food storage and handling procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment.
  • May on occasion, serve alcohol to a diverse population. Sale of such alcohol must conform to laws set forth be the Vermont DLC. Must past certification course from DLC of Vermont
  • Observe proper food storage and handling procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment. Assist in receiving and taking deliveries.
  • Ensure the highest standards in sanitary back of house (BOH) procedures, fill out temp and time sheets, follow cleaning checklists, Food storage and prep areas are clean and always maintained. Following VT safety and sanitary standards every shift.
  • May on occasion be asked to work on point POS and help cover other dining operations, be versed on basics for cash operations.
  • Clean work areas, including counters, floors, dishes, and related equipment and ensures they are in proper sanitary condition.
  • Serve Safe certified or able to successfully pass the exam after hire date. Safe Serve Food Service Sanitation Certificate will be administered during training period.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a cook. Experience or training in cold food preparation, food storage and shelf life, basic kitchen work.
  • Knowledge of food service cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Must past certification course from DLC of Vermont and Middlebury College drivers license after date of hire.
  • Will be expected to continue to develop his/her culinary skills though a demonstrated commitment to grow and become increasingly versatile to the unit and organization.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Must be able to stand for up to 4 hours continuously, as well as frequent bending and overhead reaching with twisting motions.

Must be able to lift 10-20lbs numerous times during the day and up to 50lbs several times each day, must be able to push and pull up to 70lbs frequently. Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
