What you’ll be doing - Te whakamahere
The sector lead role is a key role for NZTE that brings sector insight and leadership to provide value to our customers. As Sector Lead, you’ll help align how NZTE supports our customers in the Technology, Manufacturing and Services sectors to grow and expand internationally. This means staying current with key trends and developments across the sector to enable our services and business support to be cutting edge for our customers.
As part of NZTE’s External Partnerships team, the role also aligns NZTE’s internal and external activities for these sectors by building and maintaining senior relationships with government and industry. You will be the face of NZTE to key industry groups around New Zealand and will be a trusted advisor to colleagues across the New Zealand government system, with a key focus on export growth.

What you’ll need to be successful – Ō Pūkenga
Outstanding communicator and connector – You will be able to tell a powerful, persuasive, and inspiring story that captures audiences with ability to engage effectively, with tact and diplomacy with leaders of industry, business, NZTE colleagues and government to achieve planned outcomes. Leading through influence will come naturally to you, and you will be able to build value-adding relationships with senior stakeholders in the public and private sector.
Strategic thinking – Able to step back from issues and consider what the value is and what that means for how the issue is addressed and prioritised. You will have the ability to create clarity from complexity, define organisational choices and trade-offs and collaborate to set direction.
Sector understanding - Broad understanding of the trends and dynamics of the sector/subsectors. You may have a significant B2B manufacturing, technology or Services background. You will also be interested inemerging technologies and business capabilities and have ability to see opportunities to leverage these for New Zealand export growth. Knowledge of policy and government sector is an advantage
Strong commercial acumen – Demonstrable experience working with or partnering with businesses, maximising commercial outcomes, plus knowledge and expertise in exporting and operating effectively in international markets.
