Marketing Assistant/Coordinator

Full time role

London-based, hybrid working

Salary range: £30-35,000

About us

Overton is a socially conscious startup focused on making government policy more transparent: we help researchers, journalists and the public to see the evidence and influences behind real world guidelines, laws and regulations.

Want to see the research behind national climate change plans, or how different countries are tackling anti-microbial resistance? Overton is where you go.

Our customers range from UN & EU agencies to think tanks, big charities and dozens of universities. Our primary product is a large, searchable database of government policy that we text mine to pull out topics, links to academic papers, people and more. We’ve also just launched a new product, Overton Engage, which tracks opportunities for researchers to engage with policymakers.

What we’re looking for

We’re expanding our marketing team and are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Marketing Assistant/Coordinator to support us. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to further their career in marketing, in a rapidly growing organisation.

We’re looking for a candidate with a 1-2 years’ experience in a marketing role (or equivalent).

Our marketing team plays a key role in generating inbound leads, promoting brand awareness, and launching new products. You’ll assist with a variety of tasks, including content creation, social media management, event coordination and more.

This role is perfect for someone who is organised, proactive, and excited to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

As we are a small team, you’ll need to be comfortable taking on responsibility, teaching yourself new skills as needed, spotting opportunities and prioritising limited capacity.

About the role

As a Marketing Assistant/Coordinator, you’ll work closely with the Marketing Manager to support a range of activities, including:

  • Assisting in the development and execution of marketing campaigns
  • Drafting and scheduling social media posts, newsletters, and other content
  • Helping to organise and coordinate conference attendance and events
  • Supporting the creation of blogs, guides, and other marketing materials
  • Monitoring market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities
  • Assisting with the creation of sales collateral, such as leaflets and website copy
  • Liaising with clients to gather case studies and testimonials
  • Tracking and reporting on the success of marketing activities

This is an exciting time to join our team as we grow rapidly in both new and existing markets. You’ll have the chance to learn from the wider team, develop new skills, and contribute to the success of our business.

About you

  • 1-2 years professional marketing experience
  • Experience or interest in the higher education sector, academic research, policy, publishing, or scholarly communications sectors is a plus, but not required
  • Basic/intermediate understanding of marketing principles and a willingness to learn more
  • Familiarity with some digital marketing tools and platforms (e.g., social media, email marketing)
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a willingness to take on new challenges
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Creative thinker with an eye for detail

How we work

This is an office-based hybrid role (based in our London Euston office 2 days per week).

We are a small team and mainly collaborate using Slack, video calls and regular all-company meetings to see each other in person.

How we hire

  1. Apply via Workable with your CV and a non-generic cover letter that explains why you are right for this role and why it interests you.
  2. We’ll schedule an initial 15-minute call to discuss the role, your experience and your situation, to see if it seems like a good fit.
  3. The first interview will be about an hour long and will be online.
  4. After this there will be a practical assessment and a second interview. There may be a third interview at our discretion.
  5. We’ll make a provisional offer. We’ll be interviewing a number of candidates so there may be a short delay, but we will try to keep you informed throughout the process.
  6. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis and would like to hire into this role ASAP, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you’re interested.
