Sexual Health Educator/Peer Education Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:


The Sexual Health Educator/Peer Education Coordinator plans, develops and implements educational school and community-based programs consistent with the policies of the agency and the priorities of the department. In addition to performing essential functions as a sexual health educator, this position serves as the lead educator responsible for coordinating and implementing PPNCSNJ’s Spill the T.E.A. peer education program. 



JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Education or related field, or equivalent education and work experience. 

 

Minimum Work Experience:  Two (2) years experience providing health education strongly preferred.

Other Requirements:   Bi-lingual in English and Spanish desirable, except required for positions that have grants that predicate as a requirement.  Valid New Jersey State driver’s license.  Reliable transportation to travel throughout the service area.





ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

The Sexual Health Educator/Peer Education Coordinator performs a wide range of duties, including, but not limited to the following:

 

 

1.          Develops and implements educational programs (may include CDC-approved effective behavioral interventions) for students, parent groups, community and other groups as assigned.

2.          Conducts outreach activities, including but not limited to participating in health fairs and informing community members about sexual health and agency services.

3.          Provides day-to-day coordination of the Spill the T.E.A. program, including planning, facilitating, documenting peer education sessions.

4.          Recruit, screen, plan and implement training and other year round activities for peer educators in support of maintaining and supporting the continuity of the Spill the T.E.A. program.

5.          Prepare reports and presentations as needed to share Spill the T.E.A. progress as requested.

6.          Actively participate in the planning and implementation of Teen Conference.

7.          Support peer educators in planning and implementing peer-drive/peer-led aspects of Teen Conference.

8.          Conduct one-to-one educational sessions as needed (this may include enrollment assistance or HIV testing).

9.          Meet requirements of educational grants and projects as appropriate and assigned. 

10.       Completes required forms and collects statistical data relevant as assigned.

11.       Participates in planning and implementing short and long-term departmental goals and objectives.

12.       Provides feedback and offers suggestions to fellow educators regarding program delivery.

13.       Keeps current in the field of sexuality education.

14.       Participates in the review and selection of educational materials and assists in coordinating the material review (I&E) process.

15.       Participates in developing and marketing education department materials, resources, and social media activities in collaboration with our communications team. 

16.       Support and delivers training such as modules in New Hire Orientation as needed/assigned.

17.       Participates in department meetings and other meetings as assigned.

18.       Represents the agency on relevant community coalitions and networking opportunities as assigned.

19.       Participates in and supports departmental programs including National Sex Ed Conference and other related activities.

20.       Participates in agency and departmental revenue generating activities, invoicing, and other related tasks.

21.       Collaborates with agency departments and health centers to support overall agency goals.

22.       Participates in volunteer and/or staff training programs as assigned.

23.       Participates in the Affiliate’s efforts related to revenue cycle, which include but are not limited to: achieving goals for productivity; meeting or exceeding revenue targets; and expense management as budgeted.

25.       Travels throughout the Affiliate’s service area as required.

26.       Performs other duties as assigned in support of mission and as required to ensure delivery of consistent high quality services.
