What you'll be doing:

In support of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s mission, the Director, Education and Training (Dir, E&T), is responsible for the implementation education and training strategy and the operations of community-based sexual health programming in Connecticut and Rhode Island.  Sexual health education includes, but is not limited to, youth peer education, classroom based comprehensive sex education, and adult programming including parent focused programs. The Director of E & T is responsible for implementing and growing the sexual health training program to youth-serving adults including, but not limited to, teachers, counselors, and nurses. The Director of E&T will report directly to the Chief Equity & Learning Officer and will partner with other external facing teams and build relationships both internally and externally in support of our mission, and to dismantle societal shame and stigma around sex and sexuality, to advance health equity, and to provide education and training that is affirming to all people. 


Essential Functions
  • Leads the identification, development, and ongoing delivery of comprehensive sexual health education programs with a specific focus on youth programming and engagement, parent programming, and other programming to meet the identified needs of our communities
  • Directs the implementation and expansion of innovative professional sexual health training programs that meet the needs of youth-serving professionals and other social service professionals
  • Develops and sustains reciprocal relationships with other organizations, state agencies, and academic institutions (middle schools, high schools, and colleges/universities), and community-based organizations. Ensures that PPSNE is represented on local task forces, committees, and in community-based coalitions
  • Directs community needs assessment and modifies programming as appropriate
  • Develops and updates curricula as needed while ensuring that all education and training programs are culturally responsive and LGBTQ+ inclusive
  • Implements and monitors the Education and Training Department’s budget 
  • Uses a data driven approach to evaluate the effectiveness of each program 
  • Seeks new revenue sources and opportunities
  • Directs on-boarding process and on-going professional development for all education and training staff
  • Supervises the Manager, Education and Training and supports a team of six. Observes team members providing education and training and ensures high quality programming
  • Directs the implementation and evaluation of an annual work plan and goals for the Education and Training Department that meets the objectives and goals of PPSNE’s Strategic Plan
  • Partners closely with Communication Brand and Marketing department to support community events and ensure Education and Training is represented on social media platforms
  • Builds relationships with Public Policy, Advocacy, and Organizing Department and seeks opportunities for partnership and collaboration
  • Partners with Equity and Organizational Culture Department and supports other internal learning activities as appropriate
  • Is a champion of Education and Training programs and seeks opportunities internally and externally to promote and communicate about education and training strategies and successes
  • Works closely with the Chief Equity and Learning Officer to identify and pursue new opportunities for expanding educational programming and the funding to support program expansion
  • Supports a culture of philanthropy throughout PPSNE to maximize opportunities for fund development and philanthropic engagement to support education and training initiatives
  • Works with Chief Equity and Learning Officer to ensure compliance with all contracts and grant programs that support education and training efforts
  • Provides leadership and consultation across the organization to identify and implement policies, procedures, actions, interventions, and tactics that advance our work and meet our strategic and operational goals
  • Responsible for the full geography of PPSNE and will divide their time as needed between CT and RI
  • Provides direct education and training in CT and RI as needed 
  • Participates in PPFA and external reproductive health and sexuality education and training networks, including representing PPSNE on national task forces and committees within PPFA and externally
  • Models and celebrates the PPSNE In This Together values
  • Produces timely and accurate reports to Planned Parenthood Federation of America and regulatory agencies
  • Represents the organization at meetings, PPFA conferences, community events, conferences, and fundraising, as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned


Key Requirements
  • Passionate commitment to the mission, vision, and values of PPSNE and the Education and Training Department
  • Direct experience in providing evidence-based sexual and reproductive health education required, including curricula development and adolescent and adult learning theory
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the intersection with health and social justice

  • Working for and Leading on Racial Equity:demonstrated understanding of the role that racial inequity plays in our society and its impact on healthcare systems and institutions, and consistently integrate your deep understanding of key racial equity concepts into work projects and interactions by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies, activities, and decisions on race, class and other group identities within the context of job responsibilities and projects
  • You have a demonstrated understanding of how race dynamics impact supervisory relationships, organizational culture, clinical service delivery, partnerships, campaigns, and coalition work, and can demonstrate a history of successfully intervening in problematic dynamics and deepening a racial equity approach within an organization, team, service, program, or campaign
  • At least 7 years of professional experience preferred, demonstrating progressive management and leadership responsibilities and accountabilities, including at least 5 years of team management experience
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills (verbal and written) 
  • Strong understanding of how to effectively support both internal and external customers  
  • Demonstrated success in building cross-functional team partnerships 
  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: education, sexual and reproductive health, public health, or other related fields

The salary range for this position is MIN: $69,822 MID: $93,096 MAX: $116,370
