Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) has been proudly serving our community since 1933 and is one of the original Planned Parenthood affiliates in the nation. 

 

We provide reproductive health care, health education and advocacy from our five health centers in Alhambra, Baldwin Park, Glendora, Highland Park, and Pasadena, in addition to our telehealth clinic.  We strive to ensure the sexual and reproductive health services we provide align with the needs of the communities we serve. Our service area extends from Glendora to Glendale and from the San Gabriel mountains to the San Bernardino freeway, home to 24 communities and a diverse population of 1.4 million people. 

 

Today, PPPSGV sees over 60,000 patient visits per year and delivers over 15,000 opportunities for sex and relationship education in our schools and colleges.  

 

We offer safe and legal abortions.  We are committed to providing accurate, non-judgmental care and resources by helping our patients overcome financial, transportation, and other barriers to care.  In addition, we work with abortion funds and practical support network to support our patients.   Our abortion care has increased every year since 2018 with an average of 3,500 abortions per year.  We saw close to 4,000 abortion patients in 2022 alone, approximately 59 were out-of-state patients. 


The Director of Annual Giving oversees a range of development strategies and processes that contribute to PPPSGV’s and PP Advocates’ annual operating budgets, including direct mail, digital fundraising, events, fundraising volunteers, and database management. They provide strategic leadership for several of our core giving programs including mid-level giving, monthly giving, and events fundraising, and they manage both the Development Manager and the Events Manager, who execute many of these strategies in collaboration with the incumbent. The director is one of the primary writers on the Development team, responsible for crafting and editing compelling appeals and other donor communications for a range of audiences. The Director is also a frontline fundraiser, who oversees a smaller portfolio of ~50 donors with the potential to make gifts between $5,000 to $10,000. This is a revenue-generating position that is responsible for meeting portfolio goals and mentoring their direct reports to achieve their fundraising goals as well. This position also makes important contributions to and decisions about our Salesforce database. 


As a Director of Annual Giving, you will save lives while you:
  • INDIVIDUAL ANNUAL FUNDRAISING: With oversight from the VP of Development, the incumbent develops and manages the overall individual giving strategy for all fundraising programs with the exception of major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns.

  • Oversee the Development Manager and the Events Manager to ensure the team meets their annual fundraising goals and successfully implements a busy calendar of appeals, events, and other fundraising activities for both PPPSGV and PP Advocates
  • Serve as the primary donor relationship manager for high mid-level donors, overseeing a smaller portfolio of ~50 donors with the capacity to make gifts above $5,000
  • Achieve annual revenue and activity goals as determined in partnership with the VP of Development, will mentor direct reports to achieve and monitor their own goals as well
  • In partnership with direct reports, manage volunteer fundraising committees for both PPPSGV and PP Advocates to inspire and mobilize volunteers and board members to identify, cultivate, and steward their own prospects and donors

  • Additionally, the Director of Annual Giving will:
  • Adhere to a proactive and performance-driven fundraising role that is driven by relationship building, metrics, and other performance indicators
  • Meet and talk regularly with current and prospective donors for stewardship and cultivation
  • Serve as the lead writer and editor for the individual giving team, providing oversight of and creative direction for appeals, invitations, and other donor messaging
  • Deliver presentations to the public and competently field questions about PPPSGV and PP Advocates to secure individual gifts, corporate matches, and gifts from groups
  • Provide guidance and contribute to decision-making around the build out and management of Salesforce and related software tools in collaboration with the VP of Development, the Development Manager, and our Salesforce consultants
  • Track portfolio activity in the database and use the database to memorialize donor and prospect contacts, relationships, and affiliations for donors in portfolio
  • Manage expenses to positively impact cost to raise a dollar and proactively seek out vendors and partners that reflect the communities and people we serve

  • ADMINISTRATIVE AND LEADERSHIP:
  • Complete weekly check-in meetings with direct reports, providing constructive feedback and guidance
  • Assist Development Manager in supervising Development Coordinator and making decisions around database management and gift processing and acknowledgments
  • Contribute to portfolio activity reports and departmental reports, communicating results to the VP of Development, the CEO, the Board of Directors, and volunteer committees
  • Contribute meaningfully and proactively to Development team meetings, affiliate-wide manager retreats, affiliate-wide task forces, and other meetings as directed
  • Participate actively in PPFA’s Development Officers Council and collaborates as needed with peers at other Planned Parenthood affiliates to share resources and best practices
  • Comply with PPPSGVs Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations

We are looking for the following:
  • Education:
  • High School level education and above are welcomed to apply
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Required Experience:   
  • 5 – 8 years of relevant experience in fundraising with a specialization in individual giving methodologies and a track record of building relationships and securing annual gifts above $5,000
  • Persuasive writing skills and proven ability to craft compelling appeals and other communications that combine calls to action, talking points, storytelling, research, and design
  • Proven track record of managing and mentoring staff
  • Proficiency using Customer Relationship Management software (Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, etc.) and MS Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Inspire and mobilize fundraising volunteers and train committees in philanthropic strategies
  • Cold calling, prospecting, developing call scripts, creating talking points, and securing new donor/client relationships
  • Working independently within a collaborative team environment
  • Commitment to the professionalism of fundraising and adherence to AFP Fundraiser Code of Ethics

  • Desired Experience:
  • CFRE and/or other fundraising certification
  • MBA or graduate degree in nonprofit management, business, or writing
  • Experience with fundraising events and/or corporate fundraising
  • Business proficiency speaking and writing in a second language
  • Existing philanthropic giving and/or business development relationships with individuals and companies located in the San Gabriel Valley and the foothills of Los Angeles, CA.
  • Experience diversifying a donor/client base and creating inclusive collateral materials and events

$125,000 - $145,000 a year
The hiring rate for this position is: $125k - $145k/year + Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Matching Program, Premium CALM account, holidays, paid time off, leadership coaching and more!
