Distinguishing Features of the Class
• Employee in this position of entry level work must be familiar with the operation of multi-line phone equipment.
• Employee will answer police department telephones and take accurate phone messages, receive visitors and answer routine questions. The Receptionist will be responsible for work of routine difficulty in the application of clerical work.
• Duties of this class are non-supervisory in nature and require the ability to act independently following standard operating procedures. Receptionist will report to and have work reviewed by the Bureau Commander
Examples of Work

• Answer incoming phone lines and secure the most accurate information possible, transfer callers to the correct office and department, takes telephone messages for police personnel and deliver them in a timely manner.
• Distributes employment applications and keeps a log of applicants.
• Operate office machines (copier, fax, etc.)
• Greet public and answer routine questions.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualification Requirement
Unless otherwise specified, all requirements must be met before employment.
• Must have and maintain a Valid LA Driver License.
• Must be able to communicate verbally/orally effectively and efficiently clearly articulate while handling a multi-line phone system.
• Must be willing to work a variety of part-time hours, including day and/or night hours.
• Must have completed High School course or possess a valid certificate of equivalency issued by a state department of education or possess any equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to perform necessary tasks in a satisfactory manner.
• Must be able to work in a pleasant and courteous professional manner with the general public, staff and personnel.
