Shelter House was established in 1981 as a grassroots responder to the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. About the Role:
The Shift Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in ensuring smooth operations and a safe, supportive environment at a large Fairfax County emergency shelter for families with minor children. The shelter consists of 85 units and approximately 344 beds. This position oversees a team of Residential Coordinators, providing direct supervision and support to staff on shift while ensuring consistency in client service delivery, crisis response, and shelter operations. The Shift Supervisor is the primary point of contact for operational decision-making during assigned shifts and ensures compliance with all Shelter House policies and standards.

Required:
● A high school diploma or GED
● 3+ years of experience in human services field i.e., mental health, substance abuse, homeless and domestic violence
● Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and team members
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed
● Leadership and management experience is a plus
Preferred:
● A bachelor’s in human services/ related field
● 3 years of experience in customer service
● Experience working in programs serving homeless families
● Experience working in a residential environment
● Current CPR/First aid certification
Physical Requirements:
● Annual TB Test is required
● Ability to sit or stand for long periods
● Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds
