2025 Summer Extended Care Counselor (June 9, 2025 - August 15, 2025)

This position is non-residential. Applicants must be able to commute daily. The position begins June 9 and continues through August 15, 2025. There is no extended camp the week of July 4.

Slide Ranch is a non-profit farm-based environmental education organization located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, on coastal wildlands just 25 minutes north of San Francisco. The mission of Slide Ranch is to connect children and people of all ages to the outdoors and partner with community groups, families and educators to provide transformative learning experiences on our organic farm and national park land along the California coast. By farming, cooking, caring for animals and exploring wilderness and the coast, we teach people of all ages to see the connection between their own health, a healthy food system and a healthy environment.

Summer Extended Care Counselor Position Summary

As a Slide Ranch Summer Extended Care Counselor you will work alongside a co-counselor on a rural, coastal farm within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. From June-August, Slide Ranch hosts 10 weeks of day camp. The week of July 4th is special programming and will not include extended care. To accommodate working parents, Slide Ranch is providing early and after hours options for campers during the remaining 9 weeks. Summer Extended Care Counselors will provide a safe and unstructured free-play style aftercare environment where campers can extend their favorite parts of Slide Ranch through more exploration, creativity, or time with our farm animals.

The work week is Monday-Friday from 2-5:30 which includes an hour for prep before camp ends and 30 minutes to clean-up once the last participant has been picked up. June 9th will be a full 8 hour day that includes training on safety and group management.

Summer camp programs serve 5-11 (some 12) year old campers so extended camp participants can be expected to include a range of ages. You are strongly encouraged to visit our website to better understand our camp program.

A typical work day is 3.5 hours and includes preparation and clean-up.

Desired Qualifications

Position requires a collaborative and positive spirit to work with our program team. The successful candidate will possess a great attitude and strong motivation to provide a safe and exceptional extended care experience. A successful candidate will be a self starter, ability to shift plans as needed depending on group energy levels, weather, or other outside influences. Prior experience working for camps or working with children.

Physical Requirements

Duties are performed in a hilly and rural outdoor setting and can be physically demanding, including outdoor teaching in all weather.

All incoming instructors are expected to have current CPR/1st Aid certification by June 9, 2025.

Compensation

An hourly wage of $16.
