Job Description: The Medical-Surgical and Telemetry Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in both medical-surgical and telemetry units. This nurse will care for patients with a wide variety of medical conditions, monitoring patients on telemetry for any changes in heart rhythms, and responding promptly to critical situations. The role requires effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team, ensuring comprehensive care, comfort, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon admission and regularly throughout their stay. Monitor telemetry readings for any abnormalities, promptly identifying and responding to any cardiac changes, including arrhythmias or heart rate fluctuations.
- Medical-Surgical Care: Provide nursing care to patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions, including post-operative care, wound management, pain management, and symptom relief. Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies as prescribed, ensuring all interventions are safely carried out.
- Telemetry Monitoring: Continuously observe telemetry data, interpreting heart rhythms and collaborating with the healthcare team in managing patients with cardiac conditions. Initiate emergency protocols when necessary in response to abnormal readings.
- Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, medication regimens, and post-discharge care instructions. Address any concerns and promote health literacy to ensure successful recovery and prevention of complications.
- Collaboration and Care Coordination: Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans. Ensure continuity of care and communicate effectively with the team regarding patient status, treatment plans, and any changes in condition.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, medications, and progress. Comply with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies in documentation and patient care.
- Patient Safety and Infection Control: Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control practices, and ethical standards in providing care, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
