Job Description

Sundance is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Retail Jewelry Buyer to join our team. Sundance is a leading omni-channel specialty retailer with headquarters located in Salt Lake City, UT. Summary

The Retail Jewelry Buyer at Sundance will drive product selection and assortment strategy making Sundance a premier destination for highly curated, quality jewelry. The buyer is accountable for category performance, quality, uniqueness and price value relationship while managing to the company’s processes and product lifecycle. In this role, the buyer sources and manages vendor relationships, and is always on the hunt for new growth opportunities for the category. The buyer will bring compelling products to sell in all channels that can meet or exceed sales plans and create a customer experience that is aligned with brand vision. This role works very closely with merchandising to develop business strategies that further the growth of the business and evolve the brand in alignment with other categories. The buying role is highly collaborative: building and maintaining strong partnerships and driving efficient and effective communication with cross-functional partners in Design, Merchandising, Planning, and Creative.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Product Selection:
    • Research and select jewelry pieces based on customer demand, current market trends, and seasonal styles.
    • Work closely with jewelry designers and suppliers to source unique pieces.
    • Negotiate prices, purchase quantities, and delivery terms with vendors.
  2. Inventory Management:
    • Monitor stock levels to ensure that the store’s jewelry collection is well-stocked and diverse.
    • Forecast sales trends and work with inventory partner to make decisions to avoid overstocking or understocking.
    • Track the performance of jewelry items and analyze customer preferences to optimize inventory.
  3. Supplier Relationships:
    • Build and maintain relationships with jewelry suppliers, manufacturers, and designers.
    • Attend trade shows, jewelry exhibitions, and networking events to discover new products and suppliers.
    • Ensure that all purchased items meet quality standards and stay within budget constraints.
  4. Trend Analysis:
    • Stay updated on current jewelry trends, fashion, and design innovations to make informed purchasing decisions.
    • Utilize market research and customer feedback to adjust product offerings.
    • Monitor competitor offerings and pricing strategies.
  5. Budget Management:
    • Manage and adhere to the jewelry buying budget, ensuring a balance between quality, variety, and profitability.
    • Analyze sales reports to ensure the buying strategy aligns with the store's financial goals.
  6. Collaboration with Other Teams:
    • Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to promote new jewelry collections and trend direction.
    • Provide input on store displays, promotions, and merchandising strategies.
    • Ensure that the jewelry inventory is aligned with customer preferences,

    • Understand the target customer base and curate jewelry collections that cater to their tastes and preferences.
    • Ensure that the jewelry assortment appeals to the customer.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience in jewelry buying, merchandising, or retail purchasing, preferably within the jewelry industry.
  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of jewelry materials, gemstones, precious metals, and current trends.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze sales data, market trends, and customer preferences to make informed buying decisions.
  • Negotiation Skills: Skilled in negotiating with vendors to secure favorable prices and terms.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in selecting high-quality jewelry and ensuring inventory is accurate and well-maintained.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers, team members, and customers.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced retail environment.

Education:

  • A degree in business, marketing, fashion, or a related field is often preferred but not always required.
  • Specialized knowledge in gemology or jewelry design is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to handle and inspect delicate jewelry.
  • Periodic travel to attend trade shows, supplier meetings, and exhibitions.

Work Environment:

  • The role typically involves working in an office or retail store environment.
  • May require occasional travel for sourcing products and attending trade shows.
