About Us

Toolkit Tutors is a high-impact tutoring company dedicated to helping students master academic content while developing the study skills they need for long-term success. We provide in-person, small-group tutoring for NYC public schools, supporting students in subjects like Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts (ELA), and Social Studies.

The Job

We are looking for a bilingual (Spanish-English) U.S. History tutor to work in-person with small groups of high school students (1-4 per group) at a Brooklyn high school. Students are English as a New Language (ENL) learners who need targeted support as they prepare for the U.S. History Regents exam.

Our tutoring model emphasizes structured, skill-building instruction that helps students grasp key historical concepts while also developing the study strategies they need to succeed.

Tutors will work approximately 20 hours per week, across 3 days per week, providing push-in support during the school day. The position pays $33/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging, structured U.S. History instruction in small-group settings.
  • Support students in key historical themes, critical thinking skills, and Regents exam preparation.
  • Adapt instruction to Spanish-speaking students, using bilingual explanations and scaffolding techniques to ensure comprehension.
  • Integrate study skills strategies (e.g., active reading, note-taking, essay organization, test-taking techniques) into sessions.
  • Take daily attendance using a personal device (mobile phone) or a school-issued laptop.
  • Communicate professionally with school staff and Toolkit Tutors leadership.

Application Process

To apply, submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your qualifications and interest in the position.

Toolkit Tutors is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

We are looking for tutors who meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (completed or near completion with strong academic performance).
  • At least one year of experience teaching or tutoring in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience working with urban school communities and an understanding of the challenges students face.
  • Strong content knowledge in U.S. History, particularly topics covered on the Regents exam, including constitutional principles, landmark Supreme Court cases, and key historical events.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written).
  • Punctual, reliable, and committed to student success.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage students effectively.
  • Ability to commute to the school location in Brooklyn.
  • DOE fingerprint clearance strongly preferred.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly rate of $33/hr
  • Paid sick leave
  • Paid training & PD opportunities
