Senior Accountant - Revenue

Summary 

Topstep is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our dynamic revenue accounting team. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely recognition of the company's revenue in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), specifically ASC 606. This role offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the financial integrity of the organization and to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist in reviewing customer contracts and sales agreements to identify key terms and conditions relevant to revenue recognition.
• Apply a thorough understanding of ASC 606 to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment for various transaction types.
• Prepare and record accurate and timely revenue-related journal entries, including deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and revenue adjustments.
• Perform month-end and quarter-end close activities related to revenue, including reconciliations of revenue and related balance sheet accounts.
• Analyze revenue trends, identify variances, and provide insightful explanations.
• Partner with other departments to understand new platform features, pricing models, and promotional activities to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
• Assist the Manager of Revenue Accounting as needed for revenue budget preparation.  
• Assist in maintaining documentation for revenue recognition policies, procedures, and controls.
• Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Participate in ad-hoc projects, cross-functional teams, and analysis as needed.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of revenue accounting processes and efficiency.

Required Qualifications and Key Competencies

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, with a solid understanding of revenue recognition principles.
• 1 year minimum experience in Netsuite. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with ASC 606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
• Organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills    

• Experience with NetCash & NetClose.
• Experience with subscription-based revenue models.

New Hire Base Salary Range

• $90,000-$110,000
• Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
• The compensation offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
