Summary

The Environmental Specialist Intern will assist in various environmental projects, including data collection, reporting, and regulatory compliance efforts. This role involves hands-on fieldwork and collaboration with team members to ensure successful project execution.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

•Lifting and/or occasionally moving up to thirty-five pounds can be expected. 

•Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing. 




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field sampling and data collection for environmental studies, including the South Florida schools water project
  • Perform drinking water sampling for Palm Beach County on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings
  • Participate in site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Assist in preparing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Proposals and Reports
  • Develop environmental reports, assessments, and documentation based on field data
  • Support the creation of permit applications and regulatory submissions
  • Analyze environmental data and prepare findings for review
  • Research and stay updated on environmental regulations, sustainability practices, and industry standards
  • Support the development and implementation of environmental management plans
  • Work with team members on sustainability and environmental impact projects
  • Prepare presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with clients, supervisors, and regulatory bodies
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support project goals and team objectives


Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form


Preferred Qualifications:
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification
  • Asbestos Building Inspector License
  • This is a part-time position, requiring working on Fridays and Saturday's morning
  • The position involves travel to project sites
