Summary

The QC Manager is a key role, responsible for managing, coordinating, and scheduling all QC technicians and Projects for FDOT and FDOT Specification Projects. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where both collaboration and autonomy are valued. 


Qualifications

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

·       Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation

·       The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to thirty-five pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation

·       The testing process for the various construction materials (i.e., soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is repetitive in nature several times per hour

·       The technician’s primary duty is to test soil densities and concrete samples (air, temperature, mix design, etc.), as well as testing other construction materials.  Testing these samples requires extensive manual lifting and handling. 

·       Weights in the zero to seventy-five range are lifted frequently (From thirty percent up to sixty-six percent of the task period) with a frequency range ten-thirty-five repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation

·       Weights in the range of thirty-five to seventy-five plus pounds (concrete cylinders and soils) are lifted frequently (From fifteen percent to thirty percent of the task period) with a range of five to fifteen repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation 

·       Construction materials are manually lifted and carried distances on average ranging from a few feet to seventy-five feet, but may occasionally exceed seventy-five feet in walking distance and are unloaded manually at our lab and carried inside for testing, with or without reasonable accommodation 

·       On average the workdays range from seven to twelve hours  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform QC Manager duties
  • Compile logbooks, QC plans, and job guide schedules
  • Provide project management on Contractor Quality Control projects, including delegation of tasks to Asst. QC Manager, budget review, and communication with contractors.
  • Provide problem solving and resolution on project issues.
  • Manage and oversee 15-20 CQC certified staff, including employee management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions, as required.
  • Timesheet review, annual employee reviews, and commutation with technicians regarding performance, oversee class signups for additional certifications, repayment agreements, check requests, as well as productivity, invoicing, and reporting
  • Create proposals and work orders for all DOT projects that arise. 
  • Identify safety concerns on project sites.
  • Review and train staff on Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for general information and specific projects
  • Maximizes long and short-term profits for Testing Lab & Construction Services Department.
  • Quotes costs and fees to clients; prepares proposals and reports.
  • Coordinates personnel and equipment within the branch
  • Turn in required paperwork daily
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies
  • Other duties may be assigned


Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
  • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certificate
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I
  • CTQP Concrete Level I & II
  • CTQP Earthwork Level I & II
  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports.
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
