Transit and Mobility Consulting Intern

Via is using technology to transform transportation around the world. From changing a single person’s daily commute to reducing humanity’s collective environmental footprint — we’ve got huge goals.

As a Transit and Mobility Consulting Intern at Via, you will work to improve mobility for our public transit partners by combining your exceptional analytical skills with Via’s sophisticated transit planning and simulation technology. You’ll collaborate closely with senior members of the Commercial Strategy Team to deliver forward-thinking on-demand transit, multimodal plans for new mobility, and deep-diving studies to design and optimize mobility services around the world.

This is a paid, part-time, Spring internship (10 – 12 weeks) based in our NYC office. There may be an opportunity to extend and/or add additional hours

What You’ll Do:

  • Contribute to complex transportation analysis to help communities study and design forward-looking, multimodal transportation and transit systems.
  • Help bring analytical rigor and planning expertise to Via’s business development process by helping design customized mobility services for potential partners (from major transit agencies to small cities) based on their geographies, land-use patterns, policy objectives, and budgets.
  • Support senior team members in optimizing Via’s partners’ service by providing detailed and action-oriented advice about quality of service, productivity, and fixed-route transit integration opportunities; you will help ensure the success of Via’s global deployments.

Who You Are:

  • A third or fourth-year undergraduate student or a graduate student studying transportation, public policy, urban planning, geography, or related field.
  • Socially-minded, action-oriented, and passionate about urbanism; you understand the importance of public transit and are motivated to improve worldwide access to mobility
  • Able to think critically and innovatively about mobility challenges, data issues, and new concepts in transportation technology
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Excited by gathering and analyzing a broad range of economic, demographic, and other data.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $25 / hour

To be considered for a first round interview your application will need to be submitted by March 7th, 2025. If the opening remains, applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Founded in 2012, Via pioneered the TransitTech category by using new technologies to develop public mobility systems — optimizing networks of buses, shuttles, wheelchair accessible vehicles, school buses, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles around the globe. Building the world's most efficient, equitable, and sustainable transportation network for all passengers — including those with limited mobility, those without smartphones, and unbanked populations — Via works with its partners to lower the costs of public transit while providing transportation options that rival the convenience of a personal car while reducing environmental impact. At the intersection of transportation and technology, Via is a visionary market leader that combines software innovation with sophisticated service design and operational expertise to fundamentally improve the way the world moves, providing technology in 650 communities and more than 35 countries and counting.
