Staff Product Manager, Managed

Your career is an investment that grows over time!

Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 4 million users who trust us with more than $50 billion in assets.

Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.

About the team

Managed is Wealthsimple’s original disruptive product that has been changing the way Canadians invest for more than a decade. Managed Investing is Canada’s leading robo advisor product, and along with our lineup of alternative investments, is trusted by more than half a million Canadians. However - we’re just getting started: millions of Canadians are still investing in high cost mutual funds and working with high fee, low value advisors - and we want to change that. Our ambition is to build Canada’s leading investing platform that provides fast, frictionless, and intuitive investing products and advice for all Canadians.

As the Staff Product Manager for Managed, you will play a key role in developing and executing the strategy to get us there. You will partner with design and engineering to understand our clients’ needs, develop prototypes, ship, analyze data, interview clients, and iterate on product features.

In this role, you will:
  • Set an ambitious product vision for one of Wealthsimple’s largest product domains
  • Oversee the planning, development, and launch of new product experiences that drive the  evolution of Managed into Canada’s leading investment platform
  • Own the end-to-end product development process - from conception, planning, and prioritization, through development and launch
  • Collaborate closely with  Engineering, Design, Data Science, and stakeholders across the business, continuously raising the bar on quality, performance, and ambition
  • Go deep with your technical counterparts to understand problems and dependencies and help guide the team to efficient and timely solutions to achieve your product vision
  • Break down complex problems and ambitious deliverables into discrete phases that deliver value to clients and the business incrementally
  • Talk directly to customers and plan and execute primary research to uncover problems, identify unmet needs, and validate potential solutions.
  • Own key business outcomes and effectively communicate progress and results to R+D leadership
  • Help elevate the Product Management practice at Wealthsimple and create an inclusive and supportive team culture.

Skills we are looking for:
  • 10+ year track record of building and shipping products that customers love
  • Experiencing owning a major project or domain, setting an inspiring product vision, and executing on a well-defined strategy to deliver results
  • Experience as an individual contributor leading large, complex, cross-functional projects and managing multiple dependencies
  • A shipping mentality - a proven track record of making trade-offs in scope to deliver impact, test hypothesis and establish strong client feedback loops quickly
  • Experience leading qualitative and quantitative research, including large-scale client research, to uncover insights and shape the direction of product roadmaps
  • Strong bias to action and the ability to set the tone for stakeholders to deliver impact in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to bring structure to ambiguity, simplify complex problems, and communicate insights and perspectives effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Technical know-how to talk with engineers about architecture and technical considerations and a strong understanding of how design, product and engineering can work together to ship high-quality experiences quickly and at scale.
  • Experience owning key business outcomes and reporting to executive leadership
  • Curiosity and a thirst for learning. You dig deep into any problem you encounter until you’ve cracked the nut on what’s really important. You ask “why?” a lot. Like, a lot.
  • Analytical skills to pull your own data, analyze it, and draw meaningful insights from it.
  • Discerning taste for what constitutes a great product experience

Nice to have:
  • Experience working at a high-growth startup or as an entrepreneur
  • Experience working in FinTech
