WorkMoney Media is a subsidiary of the non-profit WorkMoney, Inc., an organization dedicated to lowering costs and putting money back into the pockets of everyday Americans, including its 8 million members. We produce content that furthers our foundational belief that if you work hard, you should be able to afford a good life. We make informational videos, radio, literature, and other media that introduces our audience to the tentpoles of personal finance and promotes financial literacy.

Why do we need a Senior Operations Consultant?

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Sr. Operations Consultant to oversee the day-to-day operations of our media company. This person will play a key role in shaping operational strategies, improving internal processes, designing and managing all financial operations, ensuring that the organization runs efficiently across all divisions, and partnering closely with our nonprofit partner. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of media operations, a strong leadership presence, experience working in a dynamic start-up environment, and a passion for driving innovation and growth in the ever-evolving media landscape. This is a fully remote position, working with staff throughout the country. 

Scope of Work includes but is not limited to: 

  • Strategy Development: Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership to implement the company’s long-term strategic goals, with a focus on operational efficiency, revenue growth, responsible financial management and organizational cohesion.

  • Operational Leadership:  Identify and implement best practices to improve workflows, resource management, and project execution. Oversee all operational aspects of the company, ensuring that each division operates effectively and meets performance targets.

  • Budget and Financial Oversight: Develop and manage the company’s operational budget ensuring alignment with company goals and proper allocation of resources. Develop processes to regularly review company financial performance, cost controls and profitability. Coordinate as needed with our nonprofit partner to review and align on resources and budgets, consolidate financials and comply with master services agreement practices and policies.

  • Team Alignment: The consultant will help track and manage a variety of operational deliverables across departments in the company, ensuring they align with the company’s vision, goals, and culture.

  • Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure operational activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements specific to the media industry. Oversee risk management processes to mitigate potential operational disruptions.

  • KPI & Performance Management: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for operational success. Provide regular reports to the CEO and board on operational performance, challenges, and opportunities.

Essential qualifications

  • Mission & Values Alignment. You are inspired by WorkMoney Media’s purpose and are committed to meaningfully improving the financial well-being of everyday Americans.

  • Operational Leadership. You have previous experience in senior operational roles within the media, entertainment, or digital sectors. You are a systems thinker and have a track record of streamlining and strengthening institutional practices and systems in order to meet company goals. You have experience in highly dynamic, start-up environments and are willing to roll up your sleeves to both design and execute new operational systems.

  • Financial Leadership. You have experience developing company budgets and managing company finances including P&L oversight and financial reporting. You have a track record of developing new and effective financial management systems and implementing needed financial controls. You know how to present and discuss financial information in ways that are accessible to others.

  • Team Leadership.  You have experience collaborating with teams and rallying a team around shared goals. You have a track record of partnering with staff to develop and manage work plans and effectively deploying team talent. You are committed to professional development and can demonstrate success in developing the skills and knowledge of staff. You have experience with lateral management and know how to partner effectively outside of lines of authority.

  • Communication & Relationship Building. You have a demonstrated track record of building relationships that support individual and collective ability to grow, thrive, and work effectively together. You embody a growth mindset, approach your relationships and work with a learning orientation, and continuously seek to improve your work and the work of the organization. You possess a deep appreciation for diversity, equity and inclusion and seek to bring people together along lines of difference. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and thrive on direct, honest, and supportive communication. You have a high comfort level with technology and use it effectively to communicate ideas and plans.

  • Strategic Thinking & Judgment. You can demonstrate data-driven, analytical, strategic thinking skills, a commitment to getting to the root cause of challenges, and a track record of developing relevant, creative and innovative solutions. You thrive in ambiguous situations with shifting priorities - your superpower is making sense of complicated situations. You have a track record of being on the right side of tough judgment calls by carefully assessing complex situations, weighing all options and making humane, just and impact-driven decisions. 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in managing large-scale digital media operations, including streaming, content management systems, or broadcasting.
  • Previous exposure to production management and/or line producing, leading budget management for entertainment/media entities.
  • Experience with mission-driven organizations. 
  • Familiarity with data analytics and metrics-driven decision-making in media companies.
  • Knowledge of content licensing, syndication, and distribution processes.

The compensation for this role is $19K/month (on a contract basis).
