Job role:


The Financial Crime Specialist (Enhanced Due Diligence) is responsible for conducting a thorough review of potentially high-risk customers in order to assess the level of financial crime risk they pose. This role involves performing customer risk assessments, triage and in-depth enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews. As well as identifying, investigating red flags, and providing recommendations on customer onboarding, maintenance, or exit based on a detailed analysis of the customer’s profile and transaction history.  


Working hours:


This is a hybrid role – the team works in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 


Your working week will consist of 7.5-hour shifts between 8 am and 8 pm, Monday to Friday, and you will be required to work one day of the weekend every other week, remotely. If you work a day at the weekend, you will receive a day off during the week. 


A day in the life:
  • Triage & Risk Assessment: Review key aspects of customer profiles to assess high-risk concerns.
  • Identify and gather documentation to alleviate risk concerns.
  • Conduct preliminary risk assessments and trigger full Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) when needed.
  • Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD): Conduct in-depth investigations, ensuring critical due diligence information is collected.
  • Evaluate Source of Wealth (SoW) and Source of Funds (SoF), particularly for PEPs.
  • Assess transactional behaviour and perform adverse media searches for red flags.
  • Ongoing Risk Monitoring: Continuously assess and update customer risk ratings.
  • Review and update reason codes based on new findings or changes in the customer profile.
  • Risk Recommendations & Decision-Making: Make recommendations for onboarding, maintaining, or exiting customers based on reviews.
  • Document red flags and assess if concerns have been mitigated.
  • Customer Risk Assessment Cases: Conduct EDD for high-risk customers, including PEPs, SIPs, and those flagged by court orders or law enforcement.
  • Review high-risk industries or customers using personal accounts for business activities.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all reviews and findings are documented according to financial crime policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated with financial crime regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Collaboration & Escalation: Collaborate with customer service and compliance teams to resolve complex cases.
  • Escalate cases requiring management intervention when necessary.
  • Phone-Based Interaction Requirement: Manage phone-based customer interactions, providing support and ensuring excellent customer service.


About you:
  • Experience in financial crime risk management, focusing on Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and/or Know Your Customer (KYC) processes.
  • Strong understanding of financial crime risk assessment, including due diligence, transaction monitoring, adverse media searches, and PEP screening.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the capacity to make informed decisions based on data.
  • Ability to assess complex financial transactions and identify potential risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and methodical in approaching risk assessments and investigations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong integrity and ethical standards, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory policies.
  • Desirable: AML or financial crime certifications (e.g., CAMS, ICA).
  • Knowledge of cryptocurrency platforms and related financial risks.
  • Experience handling court orders and law enforcement inquiries.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment tools and software for financial crime investigations.
