SBP Poplar has a full menu of recreational youth programs, ranging from birthday parties and school groups to camps and after-school programs. The Youth Programs Coordinator is responsible for supporting and developing all aspects of youth programming at Seattle Bouldering Project, including curriculum, budget, marketing, and staffing. This role includes working closely with the General Manager to maintain, support, and develop behind-the-scenes programs administration, and providing exemplary leadership through direct instruction of programs. Effective communication with staff, management, gym guests, youth participants, and families is at the core of the position. The Youth Programs Coordinator will model excellent instruction and customer service, support the growth of programs instructors through feedback and coaching, and manage Youth Programs labor and financial budgets.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND DIRECTION- Support continued development of fun and innovative kids’ programming and curriculum, including clubs, camps, birthday parties, and group events.
- Work as a facilitator across the scope of all the programs we offer. Communicate with participants, parents, staff, and instructors to ensure program quality.
- Promote SBP's youth program values and maintain staff motivation and growth through coaching, training, and modeling.
- Serve as a key resource for SBP's procedures and policies, and ensure they are executed appropriately.
COMMUNICATION- Model excellent facilitation, communication, and leadership while collaborating with instructors.
- Proactively provide ongoing feedback to the General Manager and other department leaders about day-to-day activities.
- Provide ongoing feedback to youth, their families, and the General Manager regarding the needs and concerns of youth programs participants.
- Regularly communicate with the public about youth programming via email, phone, and face-to-face.
RISK MANAGEMENT- Serve as staff lead to support risk management in Programs. Actively promote risk mitigation through ongoing instruction and orientation.
- Work under the guidance of the General Manager to proactively respond to youth safety concerns or behavioral issues.
- Ensure that program instructors and participants are aware of the risks, rules, and regulations of the facility.
- Promptly report any troubling or inappropriate behavior by or towards youth.
- Ensure the safety of participants, staff, and customers through group organization and oversight.
- Support incident reporting, emergency scenario and general safety reviews, and policy-writing.
LOGISTICS - Ensure youth program equipment and spaces are clean, functional, and facilitate a high quality staff and member experience through ordering supplies and equipment, working sith programs staff to ensure proper cleaning and systems.
- Assist with the scheduling of program instructors and training to ensure coverage for youth clubs, camps, birthday parties, and other youth groups.
WORKING CONDITIONS- This role consists of approximately 60-80% of the week in admin work, with direct coaching and working with coaches the other 20-40%.
- Youth programs occur every day and often during our peak hours and summer. Some evening, weekend, and holiday presence is required of the Coordinator's schedule, but will be planned ahead of time (is not on-call).
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Availability during camp hours, weekends, and evenings as needed, but scheduled ahead of time
- Experience working with youth, preferably in a climbing environment.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- High energy, team oriented, organized, and strong customer service.
- Competency with Approach preferred.
$26 - $32 an hour
