THE SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $60,889.00 – $70,022.00.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) provides a wide range of services and programs for youth at every stage of the juvenile justice process. Our goals are to (a) build stronger and safer communities and advance public safety by preventing juveniles from entering the New York City's juvenile justice system, (b) provide therapeutic treatment and services to youth in our custodial care, and (c) help juveniles access the tools they need to leave the justice system for good. We strive to help families and young people by providing supportive services that are responsive to the needs of individual youth and families.

Within DYFJ, the Office of Juvenile Justice Programs & Services (JJPS) provides support across the Division by ensuring that our youth receive comprehensive and consistent medical, mental health, case management, and social services throughout their involvement with the juvenile justice system. JJPS also develops and oversees the Division's continuum of programming and services.

JJPS is seeking two Case Managers who will be responsible for oversight and management of the intake, adjustment, facilitation, coordination, advocacy, planning, discharge, and re-entry for (a) juvenile delinquents, (b) juvenile offenders, and (c) adolescent offenders remanded to and/or placed in the care and/or custody of ACS within an assigned secure detention facility.

The duties and responsibilities of the Case Managers will include, but not be limited to:

- Perform daily case management services (e.g., including intakes, managing visitor entry into the facility, facilitating youths’ access to telephone calls) within a juvenile detention facility for youth pending court proceedings, and/or as a sentence after a conviction for either a felony or misdemeanor offenses.

- Complete and maintain adjustment reports, statistical reports, data entry, internal monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and other documentation requested by the courts.

- Review case management records that are contemporaneous, accessible, and used by management as the basis for planning services for youth at the Secure Detention Facility, and for evaluating the level of care provided to youth residing at the facility.

- Manage resident youth cases, including assessing the needs of youth, performing intakes, intervening on youths’ behalf to access services, managing youth visits, coordinating and referring youth to appropriate services such as educational, medical and mental health services, pro-social and vocational programming, mentoring, social benefits and entitlement services, and re-entry.

- Conduct home and field visits to assess the needs of youths and their family needs, and coordinate with other stakeholders to ensure continuity in the areas of medical and mental health, education, career readiness, and prosocial programming.

- Collaborate with other DYFJ facility units and departments to document programming participation and the development and maintenance of youth behavior.

- Maintain collateral contact with youths’ relatives, friends, hospitals, schools, other public and private agencies, and community resources via field visits, mail, or remotely.

- Maintain timely documentation of youth and family interactions by recording timely progress notes, and reporting on youths’ progress in designated case management files and databases.

- Ensure timely communication and ongoing collaboration with youths, their families, courts, attorneys and agencies involved in the lives youths for coordinating current case/permanency statuses.

- Attend detention, milieu-based meetings, and conferences, as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
