Staff Product Designer (UX)

About us

Climate X is a purpose-driven technology company, backed by GV (Google Ventures), Western Technologies (early investors in Meta, Google, Palantir), Commerz Ventures, Pale Blue Dot, Deloitte, and other world-class investors. We’re a wonderfully diverse, growing team with physical offices in London and New York City.

Demand for Climate X is growing fast, and we need to build our team! You’ll be at the front of a nascent industry, working as part of a fantastic and diverse team, doing things that you can be proud of. We’re excited to have the opportunity to speak with you during this process.

Our mission

To deepen the understanding of our changing planet and inspire meaningful action.

What we do

  • We’re helping the world become more resilient to the impacts of physical climate risks (including floods, fires, storms and more). In doing so, we help drive positive global impact aligned to many of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
  • Our team builds cutting-edge, peer-reviewed science (incorporating climate projections, remote sensing data) and translates that into financial impacts (to the value of assets or business disruption linked to failure of critical infrastructure) that our customers in the financial services industry use to identify, manage and mitigate those risks.
  • Climate X’s customers include the world’s largest banks, asset managers and insurance companies including CBRE, Standard Chartered, as well as a partnership ecosystem that includes Deloitte, Capgemini and AWS. Combined, they manage over $6.5 trillion of assets.
  • Customers choose us thanks to our ecosystem of products that help solve real human problems, and drive tangible business benefits to our customers. They love our customer-centric mindset, as well as our pace of innovation in the market.

The impact you'll own

We're seeking a Staff Product Designer to lead our design strategy and establish best-in-class user experiences across our climate intelligence platform. As our first design hire, you will drive design excellence, establish scalable design systems, and influence product direction to help organisations understand and adapt to climate risks. You'll act as a design leader, translating complex climate data into intuitive interfaces while championing user-centred design practices and establishing design foundations for future growth.

Design System Development: Establish and maintain a comprehensive design system comprising reusable components, patterns, and guidelines to streamline the development process and ensure design consistency across our platform.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, product managers, and climate scientists to facilitate the seamless implementation of design solutions, enabling faster development and reducing redundancy.

User Experience Optimisation: Continuously assess and improve the usability and accessibility of our products, ensuring a superior experience that makes complex climate data intuitive and actionable for our customers.

AI-Enhanced Design Practices: Develop scalable design processes leveraging AI tools and modern workflows to accelerate production while maintaining quality, establishing foundations for efficient design operations.

Strategic Leadership & Measurement: Define the design vision for our product ecosystem, identify opportunities for innovation, and establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of design decisions on user engagement and business outcomes.

Essential skills

  • Proven experience as a Product Designer with a strong portfolio showcasing the development of design systems and user-centric designs for complex B2B products.
  • Advanced proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, with working knowledge of front-end development concepts.
  • Deep understanding of user-centred design methodologies and ability to translate complex data into intuitive interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate design decisions and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience leveraging AI design tools to enhance productivity and establish efficient design workflows.

Desirable skills

  • Familiarity with climate change impacts and adaptation strategies, particularly in financial risk assessment.
  • Experience working with financial services products or enterprise SaaS solutions.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience working in cross-functional teams.

Success in this role means

  • You've developed a cohesive design vision that aligns our products with business objectives while delighting users.
  • Key stakeholders across the company actively seek your input on strategic product decisions.
  • Your design system has elevated the quality and consistency of our product while enabling the engineering team to work more efficiently.
  • You've established a foundation of user research and data-informed design practices that guide product development.
