Head of Delivery (Project Management)

Location: Cape Town 

Reporting Line: Chief Operating Officer (Cape Town)

Working Practices: Hybrid. Monday and Thursday in office - remaining days remote.

As Head of Delivery, you will lead the execution of complex, global online learning projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and at the highest quality standards. You will oversee a team of Delivery Managers and Project Managers, optimizing project management practices and ensuring seamless collaboration across all core departments. With clients primarily based in the US and other international markets, this role demands a global mindset, strong stakeholder management, and commercial acumen. As online education continues to evolve, you will play a key role in shaping how innovative learning experiences are brought to life, working at the intersection of technology, education, and consulting.

Beyond execution, you will be a strategic driver of growth, ensuring that the delivery function not only meets today’s challenges but is continuously evolving to scale efficiently, drive innovation, and exceed client expectations. Reporting directly to the COO, you will have the opportunity to influence the company’s long-term delivery strategy, implement best-in-class project execution methodologies, and foster a high-performance culture within the team. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Foster a high-performing department by ensuring appropriate team composition and enabling a supportive, growth-oriented environment through leadership and collaboration.
  • Act as a trusted leader and point of contact for peers and executives, driving cross-functional initiatives and advocating for continuous improvement.
  • Foster growth and performance within the team by providing clear expectations, addressing performance challenges, and equipping them with tools, guidance, and skills to succeed.
  • Cultivate a positive and collaborative team community culture that promotes retention, alignment with company values, and active engagement.


Client & Project Delivery

  • Oversee project execution to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery, balancing priorities across global clients.
  • Support the team in managing clients effectively to drive repeat business, intervening strategically in escalations to resolve issues and empower the team.
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Control (QC) metrics, driving consistent project excellence and process improvements.

Financial & Operational Performance

  • Demonstrate advanced commercial acumen and strategic thinking with respect to clients and financial performance of projects
  • Collaborate with Finance and ‘squads’ to track project profitability, ensuring projects remain within scope and budget, and that financial targets are met.
  • Optimize resource allocation, balancing workloads across squads to maximize efficiency and prevent under- or over-utilization.
  • Implement and refine systems and processes that enhance efficiency, ensure adherence to standards, and promote continuous improvement through innovation and collaboration.

Growth & Business Development

  • Identify and capitalize on upsell and cross-sell opportunities within client accounts, working with DMs and PMs to drive revenue growth.
  • Work closely with Sales and Leadership to align delivery operations with long-term business strategy and expansion plans.

  • An engaged, skilled, motivated and high performing project management and QC team
  • Projects are delivered on time and within budget to a high standard, meeting company objectives
  • Actions are taken to prevent client escalations, and where they do happen, this role owns satisfactory resolution
  • High client satisfaction and repeat business through strong relationship and stakeholder management

Experience 

  • 10+ years in project management leadership roles, preferably in consulting or digital services.
  • Experience managing project managers and/or large project teams.
  • Proven track record of driving operational efficiency, improving team performance, and managing complex global projects.
  • Strong experience in client engagement, financial management and budgetary processes. 
  • EdTech experience is strongly preferred. 

Skills and Competencies

  • Familiarity with project management tools, resource planning, and AI-driven process improvements.
  • Leadership & People Management – Ability to motivate, mentor, and scale teams while maintaining high performance.
  • Strategic Thinking & Decision-Making – Ability to align delivery operations with overall business goals.
  • Stakeholder & Client Management – Strong skills in managing executive relationships and driving client satisfaction.
  • Project & Resource Management – Expertise in delivering projects on time and on budget, while optimizing team utilization.
  • Financial & Commercial Acumen – Understanding of budgeting, profitability, and business growth strategies.
  • Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement – Ability to implement best practices, tools, and automation (including AI) to improve efficiency.
  • Risk & Issue Management – Strong ability to identify risks early and implement effective mitigation strategies.
