At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies.
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) leads the management of a portfolio of energy storage, solar, and solar-plus-storage projects through all construction phases, from Notice to Proceed (NTP) to Commercial Operation Date (COD) and Final Completion. The SPM assumes full ownership of project execution, including scheduling, budgeting, permitting, engineering oversight, supplier management, and construction activities. This role also involves mentoring and directing junior staff, resolving high-level challenges, and fostering collaboration among cross-functional teams. The SPM will oversee a team of PMs and APMs. The SPM is expected to operate with significant autonomy while providing strategic input to the broader organization.
What You’ll Do
Project Leadership and Strategic Planning (30%)
- Develop and manage comprehensive project schedules, ensuring alignment with contractual and internal deadlines.
- Oversee coordination of internal teams, including engineering, procurement, legal, and finance, to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Manage complex document control processes, including bids, design documents, contracts, and construction documentation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing clear, detailed project updates and addressing issues proactively.
- Lead the development of RFPs, requirement documents, high-level designs, and other project planning materials.
- Operates with full autonomy in project planning; escalates only critical risks or significant scope changes to executive leadership.
Construction Oversight and Quality Assurance (30%)
- Provide leadership and direction for on-site construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to design specifications.
- Conduct regular site visits to oversee progress, address challenges, and maintain quality standards.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to resolve issues and maintain schedules.
- Expedite deliverables from engineers and suppliers to ensure alignment with the overall project timeline.
- Independently resolves construction issues and directs subcontractors; escalates only high-impact challenges requiring executive input.
Financial and Contract Management (15%)
- Take full ownership of project budgets, tracking performance, forecasting costs, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiate and manage vendor and contractor contracts, ensuring alignment with budgetary and project objectives.
- Lead the management of change orders, payment applications, and other financial processes to ensure alignment with project financial targets.
- Exercises full authority over budget management and contract execution within organizational guidelines; escalates significant financial risks to leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management (10%)
- Act as a key liaison across Procurement, Engineering, Operations, Legal, and Finance to align on deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
- Drive effective communication among stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and problem-solving-oriented environment.
- Represent the company in external meetings with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Lead and support initiatives to support process improvements within and across teams.
- Resolves interdepartmental conflicts independently; escalates only issues with enterprise-wide implications.
Leadership and Mentorship (15%)
- Lead, mentor, and develop project managers and associate project managers, providing guidance on technical and management tasks.
- Establish and promote best practices for project management, including process improvements and lessons learned.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, emphasizing accountability and professional growth.
- Independently manages team dynamics and performance; escalates only significant personnel or team challenges to senior management.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years focused on large-scale solar PV, energy storage, or electrical construction projects.
- Deep expertise in the design, construction, and operation of solar and battery energy storage systems.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale, complex electrical and/or renewable energy projects.
- Demonstrated ability to address and resolve technical, financial, and logistical challenges in large-scale projects.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize data for decision-making.
- Operates independently, making informed decisions on all aspects of project delivery.
- Experienced in developing strategies to mitigate risks and resolve critical issues
- Proven experience managing and mentoring junior staff and leading cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional communication skills for engaging with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency with project management tools, including Procore, MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, with experience implementing OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- 15-20% of time traveling.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply a broad range of knowledge in various engineering disciplines (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.
- Extensive experience negotiating complex contracts, including design-build agreements.
- Experience in engineering and design in the electrical or energy sector.
- Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, NABCEP, or PMP.

Base Salary Range: $145,000- $160,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
