The Role 

Engine Ventures is seeking a dynamic, technically adept, and entrepreneurial Sr Data Analyst to join our Research & Analytics (R&A) team. This role will focus on building tools and insights that inform our investment strategy and expand our capacity to identify emerging opportunities across the frontiers of science and engineering. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise in data aggregation and analysis, an interdisciplinary mindset, and a deep curiosity about innovation and its commercial impact.

As part of the R&A team, you will lead efforts to gather and analyze large datasets, develop scalable tools, and create actionable insights for our investment team. You will play a critical role in helping Engine Ventures identify new areas of innovation, assess commercial viability, and support the early-stage founders driving these advancements. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in collaborative, mission-driven environments and is excited about shaping data-driven decision-making in tough tech investing.

• Design and build data pipelines
• Develop scalable analytics and visualization platforms
• Leverage advanced techniques for data aggregation and analytics to create actionable insights
• Collaborate with investment team members
• Synthesize findings and communicate to stakeholders
• Collaborate with academic and commercial partners to enrich insights and enhance methodology
• Continuously refine tools and methodologies to improve precision, efficiency, and scalability
• Take on special projects as needed to support the broader goals of Engine Ventures

• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degrees preferred) in data science, computational sciences, or engineering
• 2-5+ years of experience in data analytics / product development
• Proficiency in Python and relevant data libraries, APIs, web scraping tools, NLP tools, and analytics strategies
• Ability to synthesize insights across multiple scientific and engineering domains
• Deep curiosity about innovation and its commercial applications
• Outstanding analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills
• Strong collaboration, adaptability, and the ability to deliver amidst ambiguity
