Job Description

Eurofins Advantar Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Associate Director to drive business performance for a routine testing group.  This position reports to the Routine Testing leader.  Strong emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s ability to lead and develop a team, engage clients, and drive timelines and quality of projects.  The successful candidate will have led a team of laboratory scientists and technicians, ensured the delivery of high-quality testing results that meet client expectations, and have a keen sense for driving business objectives (profitability, turnaround time, quality) through their teams

Duties:

  • Lead the team: Manage the day-to-day operations of their business, ensuring timely completion of projects, even distribution of work/resources/funding, all while maintaining a high standard of quality and compliance. 
  • Manage the business: Drive the business to achieve your financial commitments.  This includes ownership of forecasting and revenue recognition
  • Engage the Client: Be the face of Eurofins Advantar for the client. Be their advocate and use Client success as your litmus test for all decisions.  Drive client satisfaction, set client expectations, and have the challenging discussions when needed.
  • Drive performance: Measure and drive team’s improvement on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as efficiency, scalability, and quality across testing processes
  • Focus on talent: Attract, retain, and develop top talent with the future needs of the business in mind (strategic workforce planning).  Know when to advocate for your team and when to performance manage.  Be a leader of leaders, enabling those on your team to learn and grow and they lead their teams
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement: Lead the implementation of lean methodologies to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.  Establish a hunger and drive for improvement within their team.
  • Find growth: Work closely with the sales team, and engage clients, to identify opportunities for growth/new offerings.  Be forward looking and take ownership for the success of the clients within your scope
  • Ensure quality: Ensure all testing activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, GMP, GLP) and company quality standards.  Be a champion for quality and build a quality culture

 

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge & Skill Requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and scaling laboratory operations
  • Effective communicator (oral and written) and strong presentation skills; including the ability to effectively communicate to senior leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage clients and build trusting relationships with commercial teams
  • Proven identifier and developer of both individual talent and future leaders
  • Familiarity with lean principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
  • Possess an entrepreneurial mindset, proactively identifying problems and effectively solving them
  • Ability to synthesize and retain information
  1. Experience, Education, & Other Requirements

Education or Equivalent:

  • Doctorate, Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree, biochemistry, chemistry or closely related physical science from a four-year college/university or equivalent education and training
  • Preference will be given to those possessing advanced degrees

Experience:

  • At least six years related experience

Additional Information

Working schedule will be Mon-Fri, 8:00am-5:00pm with occasional overtime as required. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of San Diego, CA are encouraged to apply.
