Growing Places is a nonprofit 501(c)3 serving the 27 communities of NCMA since 2001. To create a strong, values-based local food system, Growing Places and our partners have been laying the foundation for a Regional Food Center during the past five years. The Regional Food Center connects NCMA’s local agricultural assets with the community through aggregation, processing, and distribution. With our growing food center, we are looking to grow our finance team!
The Finance Assistant is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Financial Controller. We are seeking a detail-oriented, thorough, and organized individual to join our team. In this role you will support the accounting and financial activities by owning the full cycle accounting, grant, audit, and general functions outlined below.
Full Cycle Accounting:
- Record invoices, bills, process check runs, review petty cash, complete bank deposits, post journal entries
- Research discrepancies with recommended actions
- Follow up with customers, vendors and staff as necessary
- Maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, prepaid expenses and revenue recognition
- Prepare annual exemption documents for excise and real estate tax
- Support purchasing and requisitions for Growing Places programs and services
- Support Food As Medicine billing with medical reimbursement partners
Grants:
- Coordinate grant reporting, the contract process, and partner/vendor MOU’s
- Update and maintain tracking of labor costs, expenditures and open balances by grant monthly and quarterly, complete cost allocation journal entries
- Prepare supporting documentation for grant reporting
Audits:
- Maintain documentation system
- Prepare supporting schedules as requested
- Assemble supporting documentation as requested
General:
- Support organization purchasing program
- Update, monitor and communicate calendar of activities for the finance office including grant reporting requirements for the organization
- Maintain neat and organized records and filing
- Participate in process and system improvement activities related to accounting and finance
- Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities, skills and experience:
- Bookkeeper or full cycle accounting experience of at least 5 years
- Passion for the local food system and North Central MA community
- Knowledge of grant management and GAAP
- Initiative, integrity, confidentiality and ownership of role
- Bachelors degree - preferably in related field, experience in lieu of degree welcomed to apply
- Non-Profit, food service, and supply chain industry experience preferred
- Ability to work in fast-paced and team-based context
- Ability to work with and include team members and volunteers of all ability levels
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Proficient use of QuickBooks Online, time tracking tools, inventory and customer sales applications. Internet and Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook experience necessary
This is a part-time, non-exempt, in-office position of 20 hours per week over 3 days. Office hours are negotiable between Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm. Additional hours are possible during peak reporting and audit periods.
Benefits are commensurate with Growing Places policies and part-time status.
Salary is $22.00 to $24.00 per hour.
