About Hillel 818
Hillel 818, winner of Hillel International’s 2024 “Great Place to Work” award, serves the 6,000+ undergraduate Jewish students at California State University Northridge, Pierce College, and LA Valley College, making us one of the biggest Hillels in the country and one of Los Angeles’ most important Jewish institutions. Hillel 818 offers a wide variety of programming to serve the diverse needs of our population. We’re a fast-paced, inspiring, team-oriented, and caring workplace – a real family environment where we work together to change lives.
Role Overview
Hillel 818 seeks a passionate, personable, responsible, resourceful, self-starting, storytelling, strategic, communications savvy, and detail-oriented Advancement Director to plan and implement a multi-pronged fundraising strategy for one of LA’s premier Jewish institutions in service of one of the biggest Jewish student populations in the country. The primary responsibility of the Advancement Director will be to connect the greater LA Jewish community to our story and mission so that we raise the money to both change the Jewish world and, of course, keep our lights on! You will oversee our annual fundraising campaign, implement our grassroots fundraising channels, work closely with our Board of Directors, and plan and execute special events as needed.
The position begins in July 2025.
What You’ll Do
- Strategy: Work with the Executive Director and development committee to create and execute annual campaign plan, calendar, and moves-management strategy that will achieve fundraising goals and increase revenues from donors both big and small.
- Prospecting, Stewardship, and Solicitation: Help discover and research new prospects, steward current donors, and solicit mid-level and grassroots donors.
- Grassroots campaigns & Mass Communications: Develop and execute all grassroot fundraising campaigns and initiatives, including mailings, e-blasts, phonathons, social media, and events.
- Board of Directors: Serve as the professional coordinator of the fundraising activities of the Board of Directors and relevant Board Committees – particularly the Development Committee.
- Grants: Prepare grant proposals and reports for foundations, donors, etc. Help identify new grant opportunities.
- Fiscal & Data Management: Ensure donor data, interactions, and gifts are accurately recorded in our CRM (Little Green Light), and engage in ongoing data analysis of our campaigns, donors trends, and tactics.
- Organizational Leadership & Teamwork: The Advancement Director is part of our Senior Staff and an integral member of our small but mighty Hillel 818 team, where we all count on each other for support, guidance, and a constant helping hand. One moment you might be representing the organization in front of key stakeholders, the next moment you might be helping us set up for a big student program where all hands are on deck!
- Supervision: The Advancement Director will help supervise our Communications Coordinator, as well as Development student intern(s).
