Manager, Laboratory Operations and Training

The Manager, Laboratory Operations and Training is a laboratory-based leadership role responsible for overseeing Mass Spec Bioanalysis (MSB) operations personnel and ensuring efficient laboratory workflows, training programs, and process improvements. This role is critical in supporting training initiatives, troubleshooting laboratory challenges, and facilitating the seamless transfer of assays from development to production while tracking efficiency and recommending improvements.


Key responsibilities include managing the training and development of lab staff, maintaining up-to-date training modules, and collaborating with Mass Spec leadership and the KCAS Bio technical training team to design and implement courses for new and ongoing laboratory training. The Manager will also oversee the tracking and maintenance of laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, and supplies throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with MSB leadership to ensure an efficient and well-organized inventory and procurement system.


Additionally, this role will lead process improvement initiatives and collaborate with internal teams to enhance laboratory functionality. Success in this position requires a strong scientific foundation, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex workflows in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

 

 


In this role, we will rely on you to:
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for Mass Spec Bioanalysis lab staff (Analyst-Scientist level)
  • Assess the skills and knowledge of trainees and tailor programs to fill gaps
  • Teach proper techniques and hands-on training for equipment and software in conducting regulated and non-regulated studies
  • Monitor and evaluate trainee performance and provide feedback to Mass Spec Bioanalysis leadership team
  • Maintain, update, and develop Pharma-specific laboratory training modules, including reviewing relevant SOPs
  • Ensure that personnel follow proper safety procedures
  • Collaborate and lead Mass Spec process improvement and committees to ensure that the laboratory is maintained functionally and efficiently
  • Collaborate with the corporate training team, metrology, and safety officer to create a Center of Excellence inside and outside of the lab environment
  • Coordinate rotating schedule of semi-annual laboratory deep cleaning activities
  • Coordinate rotating schedule for maintenance and verification of instruments and equipment such as pipettes, plate washers, freezers, etc
  • Perform other duties as required 
  • Strong background in the Physical Sciences
  • Strong demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency and experience with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to learn specialty computer-based applications
  • Significant experience in a customer-focused work environment


To qualify specifically for this role, you will have:
  • B.S. in a scientific-related field required, with a minimum of 5 year's experience in the CRO, Pharma, or Biotech industry
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above
  • Strong background in the Physical Sciences
  • Strong demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency and experience with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to learn specialty computer-based applications
  • Significant experience in a customer-focused work environment
