The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for managing a portfolio of 130-150 major donors and prospective donors with the capacity to give $25,000 or more to support the mission of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. The Major Gifts Officer will focus on developing and executing personalized strategies to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, ensuring their continued engagement and investment in the organization's priorities.


Key responsibilities include making major gift solicitations, inviting donors to consider planned gifts, creating compelling proposals and presentations, and maintaining accurate donor records using Raiser’s Edge. This role also involves collaborating with senior leadership, volunteers, and the fundraising team to meet ambitious goals, track progress, and report on fundraising outcomes.


The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, a proven track record of securing gifts of $25,000 or more, and excellent communication skills. The position requires frequent travel within the San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties, as well as the ability to manage multiple fundraising activities and work independently in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment. In this role, you’ll get to:
  • Manage a portfolio of 130-150 major donors and prospective donors with the capacity to give $25,000 or more.

  • Develop and implement individualized strategies to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors.

  • Lead major gift solicitations and invite donors to include PPPSW in their estate plans and long-term giving strategies.

  • Create compelling, customized proposals and presentations that demonstrate the impact of donors’ philanthropy.

  • Build and maintain meaningful, long-term relationships with high-net-worth donors to secure financial support for PPPSW’s mission and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership, volunteers, and the fundraising team to align efforts and achieve fundraising goals.

  • Travel within San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties to engage with donors in person through meetings, calls, and events.

  • Utilize Raiser’s Edge to manage donor records and track all interactions, including solicitations, stewardship, and meetings.

  • Report regularly on progress with individual prospects, tracking key metrics such as meetings, asks, and gift closures.

  • Engage donors through a variety of touchpoints, such as personalized communications, events, and meetings with leadership.

  • Contribute to the overall success of PPPSW's major gifts and planned giving programs, advancing the organization’s vision and impact.


What we’re looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated track record of securing major gifts of $25,000 or more.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals and communicate impact

  • Proven ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to prioritize, set, and accomplish goals, and handle multiple fundraising activities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to exercise appropriate level of professionalism and discretion when dealing with confidential information.

  • Demonstrated experience building working relationships with donors of major gifts and cultivating those relationships.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or other CRM Software


$95,000 - $100,000 a year
