Middle and Upper School Dance Teacher

Rye Country Day School is seeking a Middle and Upper School Dance Teacher to join the faculty beginning in August 2025. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Guided by the Rye Country Day School Drama and Dance Department mission to stimulate the imagination of our students, to motivate them to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and to encourage self-confidence and clarity in life goals, the 7th-12th grade Dance Teacher will implement all aspects of the Dance Curriculum.

 Specific responsibilities include:

  • Choreograph the Middle School Integrated Performing Arts Musical
  • Teach Dance 1, 2, and 3 in the Upper School and 1 spring elective in the Middle School
  • Teach fall, winter, and spring 7/8 Middle School PE Dance classes
  • Teach fall and spring Upper School PE Dance classes
  • Teach and choreograph fall, winter, and spring Cedar Street Dance Company
  • Advise Dance with a Purpose club and direct the Winter Choreography Showcase
  • Direct and choreograph the Middle and Upper School Spring Dance Performance
  • Curate and organize the annual Strong Family Dance Concert
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, colleagues and families
  • Maintain an optimal work environment that ensures students’ safety and well-being
  • Regularly write student reports
  • Utilize technology in classroom, as appropriate
  • Attend Drama and Dance department meetings, including production meetings, and division meetings when possible

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance and/or Dance Education required; Masters degree or higher preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching dance including ballet, jazz, modern/contemporary technique, and musical theater
  • Excitement for working with Upper School and Middle School students
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, choreography, and teaching skills
  • Comfort with technology including a 1:1 laptop program and online course management system
  • A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to continue a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative dance program
