Registered Respiratory Therapist – Hospital Position

Job Description: A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides comprehensive respiratory care for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. Working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the RRT is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and implementing therapeutic interventions to improve respiratory health.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Assessment: Evaluate patients through clinical examination and diagnostic tests to assess lung function, oxygenation, and respiratory health. Interpret diagnostic results, including arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and chest X-rays.
  2. Therapeutic Interventions: Administer oxygen therapy, inhaled medications, mechanical ventilation, and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) as directed by the medical team. Manage ventilators and related equipment, adjusting settings based on patient needs.
  3. Emergency Response: Respond promptly to code blue or other emergency situations, assisting with intubation, resuscitation, and providing life-saving support.
  4. Patient Education: Educate patients and families on managing chronic respiratory conditions (e.g., COPD, asthma) and provide guidance on home oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and other care plans.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to develop and implement personalized respiratory care plans.
  6. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely patient records, documenting all assessments, treatments, and progress. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures, and adhere to regulatory standards.
  7. Equipment Maintenance: Inspect and maintain respiratory equipment, ensuring that it is clean, functional, and calibrated according to safety standards.
