Pay Range: $22.90 - $28.62/hr.

***$2,000 Sign-On Incentive***

Workdays & Hours: Monday – Thursday 7am – 5:30pm or Tuesday – Friday 7:am – 5:30pm, depending on business needs; Some evening/weekend work may be required.

A Skilled Trades Tech II Commercial Carpenter job is available with the City of Fort Worth Property Management Department within its Facilities Division. The Facilities Division provides City Departments with world class facility planning, design, construction, renovation and maintenance services. The Division is seeking a qualified Commercial Carpenter for maintenance and repair of City owned facilities. Candidates must have the ability to utilize appropriate tools in performing carpentry duties, read and interpret blueprints and drawings, understand and apply building codes, follow written and verbal instructions, work in confined spaces, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work at considerable heights, climb and work from ladders and scaffolding.

This position qualifies for the following incentive which is separate from the base pay:

$2,000 Sign-On Incentive: 50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in carpentry or related skilled trades experience
  • Two years of increasingly responsible carpentry experience.
  • Valid Class “C” Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding at a considerable height
  • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical

  • Commercial carpentry experience

The Skilled Trades Tech II Commercial Carpenter job responsibilities include: 

  • Constructs, repairs and refinishes wooden articles such as desks, chairs, cabinets, and other office furnishing.
  • Repairs floors, partitions, and doors; install all types of counter tops.
  • Makes drawings and sketches of construction or repair projects.
  • Provides maintenance, remodeling and new construction of city buildings.
  • Performs and/or supervises rough and finished carpentry work in the construction, alteration, repair or maintenance of buildings, floors, walls, roofs, stairways, doors, windows, wooden fixtures, etc.
  • Establishes grades of foundations and floor slabs of buildings or building additions.
  • The ability to utilize appropriate tools in performing carpentry duties.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Understand and apply building codes.

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. The position will require candidates to work from considerable heights and in confined spaces.
