Overview of team:
The Middle Office team at B2C2 plays a critical role in the smooth operation of our trading activities. As a key part of the wider trading process, together with the Trading and Risk teams we are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, control, and efficiency of all operational office functions. This includes trade support, risk management, performance analysis, and ensuring seamless operational flow between Front Office and Back Office teams. The Head of Middle Office will lead the team, driving initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, risk control, and stakeholder engagement.
Scope of role:
As the Head of Middle Office, you will be responsible for overseeing all of B2C2’s operational office activities, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of trades, resolving issues, and implementing best practices. You will drive operational improvements, collaborating closely with both front and back office teams to support our crypto trading, OTC desk, and market-making activities. This role is central to ensuring the firm’s operational integrity, smooth trade flows, resolve reconciliation breaks and compliance with internal and external requirements.
Key perforance indicators (KPIs) for success in this role will include timely trade settlements, operational error reduction, team performance, and continuous improvement in the risk management process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for solving reconciliation breaks between exchanges and our trading/account systems, settlements banks and Fireblocks vs our accounting system.
- Create, lead and manage the operations team, ensuring efficient trade lifecycle management, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Oversee the daily trade support functions, ensuring trades are captured, confirmed, settled, and reconciled in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the Front Office to ensure smooth communication and transaction handling, resolving any discrepancies or trade-related issues quickly.
- Manage risk processes, including limit monitoring, margin requirements, and exposure analysis, ensuring adherence to internal risk policies and external regulations.
- Develop and implement operational procedures to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with our operations teams, to ensure proper trade booking, settlement, and data accuracy.
- Provide leadership and guidance on regulatory and operational best practices within the operations space.
- Identify and implement improvements to the operational infrastructure, tools, and processes to ensure scalability and sustainability in a growing crypto market.
- Foster cross-departmental relationships with Technology, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure alignment on operational needs and risk management.
- Ensure trading costs (such as trading fees, broker fees) are captured and reconciled.
Required Skills:
- Proven experience in a Middle Office, Trading Operations, or Risk Management role in a financial institution, preferably within the crypto or OTC trading space.
- Strong understanding of trading lifecycle, operational processes, and risk management principles.
- Comprehensive understanding of all product types: OTC Spot, OTC CFDs, Options (Physically or Cash Settled) and Funding (borrow/lending) and their respective settlement processes.
- Expertise in trade settlement, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Proficiency in risk management tools and strategies.
- Solid experience with regulatory reporting obligations (e.g., CFTC, EMIR, MiFID II, SFTR), including timely and accurate submission of reports to regulators, compliance monitoring, and ensuring adherence to industry standards.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a team and lead complex projects.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with crypto regulations (e.g., Travel Rule).
- Experience with crypto trading platforms and OTC markets.
- Experience with blockchain-based trading systems, smart contracts, De-Fi.
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, or similar data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with ISDA framework for margin calculations.
- Understanding of risk modeling and exposure management in a market-making or liquidity-provision context.
- Experience working with external vendors and managing third-party relationships.
- Understanding of CFTC Swap Dealer obligations.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, particularly in crypto markets (e.g., VASP regulations) and traditional financial environments (e.g., MiFID II), ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
