What You’ll Do
As an Assistant Accountant you will support the Financial Controller in driving smooth and accurate financial operations, including managing monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting tasks. You will also get involved in maintaining the general ledger, recording transactions, and ensuring timely statutory remittances. Expand your impact by contributing to accounts payable processes, overseeing sales transactions, and handling deposits with precision and efficiency.
As an Assistant Accountant you will:
- Calculate, prepare, and issue documents related to accounts such as bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements.
- Code, total, batch, enter, verify, and reconcile transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll, purchase orders, cheques, invoices, cheque requisitions, and bank statements.
- File financial records, update and maintain accounting databases, and process backups.
- Manage of the fixed asset register and monitoring of capitalised time.
- Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet and control accounts.
- Assisting in the preparation and analysis of monthly revenue recognition.
- Complete ad hoc sales processing in the financial system.
- Process vendor payments via cheque, wire, or other means.
- Print cheques and update the cheque tracker weekly.
- Post transactions to the digital vendor file.
- Make credit card payments where needed.
- Complete year end reconciliations.
- Assist in basic bookkeeping functions.
You are an accounting professional who:
- Has 1-2 years of experience working as an Assistant Accountant or comparable role
- Successful completion a Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma preferred
- Strong Excel skills
- A well organized, efficient and committed person.
- Proven ability to pick up new areas of work quickly and ability to self-motivate.
- Ability to recognize issues, problem solve and identify solutions.
- Pro-active with a “can do” attitude to tasks and issues that arise.
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.
