Hello Neighbor is seeking a Center for Afghan Resilience Case Aide to support Hello Neighbor’s specialized program that provides Services to Afghan Survivors Impacted by Combat. This program focuses on improving the lives of ORR-eligible Afghan families in Pittsburgh by providing holistic support to reduce barriers to self-sufficiency, including healthcare and community service access. The Case Aide will play a key role in managing transportation for healthcare appointments, offering self-sufficiency strategies, and working collaboratively across a dual-agency team program. The ideal candidate will maintain strong cultural and community boundaries while fostering meaningful, impactful connections to improve the Afghan community's experience in Pittsburgh.
This Case Aide role will work within a dual-agency case management team to support eligible families for at least one year and up to three years. This will include providing physical healthcare coordination, medical appointment accompaniment, extended cultural orientation, and advocacy in accessing culturally and linguistically appropriate services. Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country.
This is an in-house, limited-term, full-time, non-exempt position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer through February 15, 2026 with the possibility of extension pending funding. We are currently on a hybrid work schedule of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday; in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and work-from-home on Mondays and Fridays. We require COVID-19 vaccination for full-time employees. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
Reports To: Assistant Director of Health & Stabilization
Key Responsibilities- Supports the Center for Afghan Resilience program with a focus on reducing cultural and linguistic barriers for Afghan refugees and immigrants.
- Coordinates transportation for clients to medical, mental health, and community service appointments, ensuring timely and effective communication across the dual-agency program team.
- Provides hands-on assistance and teaching to clients to develop self-sufficiency strategies for transportation, healthcare navigation, and accessing community services.
- Maintains strong cultural and community boundaries while advocating for client needs and fostering respectful, trauma-informed interactions.
- Communicates consistently with team members and external partners to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to case management.
- Documents client interactions and services promptly and thoroughly, adhering to confidentiality guidelines.
- Advocates for culturally appropriate care standards and ensures interpretation and translation services are available as needed.
- Participates in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetings.
- Adheres to Hello Neighbor’s confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.
Preferred Qualifications- Bilingual or multilingual in a priority language is strongly preferred (Dari, Pashto).
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience working with refugee and immigrant communities or in a culturally diverse environment.
- Possesses cultural competencies, including knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relevant to the Afghan community.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, with compassionate, professional interactions with clients, staff, and partners.
- Skilled at task management, including prioritizing, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple responsibilities.
- Car, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance are required.
- Willingness to transport families in your personal vehicle.
- Experience navigating the U.S. healthcare system, including medical insurance and appointments, is a plus.
- Familiarity with working with interpreters and advocating for trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as necessary and share on-call responsibilities with the team.
- Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software systems.
- Alignment with and support of Hello Neighbor’s core values.
- Lived migration experience or fluency in Dari, Pashto, or other languages relevant to the Afghan community is a plus.

- Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24); Mandatory Reporter and/or PSEA training may also be required depending on job requirements

- $18.50 - $20 hourly, nonexempt
