You will be responsible for the coordination and management of the team handling daily payroll processing, and other operational tasks related to payroll and ACH money movement. You will be responsible for coaching, mentoring and developing a lean team.

Your Success Profile

What You Will Work On

  • Own and manage the operational workflow for daily payroll processing, new hire reporting, banking transactions (to include debits and credits of payroll and tax funds), as well as all other payroll transactions and system updates
  • Help build and manage a team of experienced payroll specialists
  • Facilitate team and individual goal setting, performance reviews, hiring, terminations and all other managerial tasks as required
  • Comfortable working directly with clients using a CRM and being an escalation point for the operations team
  • Identify pain points and remediate issues by creating processes and maintaining operational tools 
  • Communicate changes in procedures and other important updates across teams
  • Create and maintain “how to” documentation to enable the operations team to work effectively
  • Establish and ensure adherence to policies and SLAs 
  • Partner with our Product and Engineering teams to improve systems, diagnose bugs, and deploy solutions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

How You Will Do Your Work

As a Manager of Payroll Operations, how results are achieved is paramount for your success and ultimately result in our success as an organization. In this role, your foundational knowledge, skills, abilities and personal attributes are anchored in the following competencies:

  • Systems thinking - the ability to look at overall systems holistically and understand how things work within the system through the exploration of inter-dependencies and inter-relationships (context and connections).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in operations
  • Minimum 3 years experience in payroll
  • Prior team lead or management experience required
  • Early stage startup experience preferred
  • Prior Payroll Provider experience required
  • ACH experience 
  • Interested in building scalable processes and leveraging data to inform them 
  • Technologically savvy; experience with utilizing multiple systems and software programs
  • Comfortable working in excel to include, formulas, pivots, vlookups, if statements
  • Flexible and calm under pressure with an ability to thrive in a changing and complex environment
  • Work effectively within a team, yet have the ability to take initiative and work effectively on your own

 

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $122,000 - $134,200 per year

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location.  Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
