Paralegal - Employment Law #1510

Our client is a boutique employment law firm dedicated to representing employees in disputes involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination. With nearly four years of operation, this small, dynamic team offers a hands-on, supportive environment where your work directly impacts case outcomes.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled General Employment Law Paralegal for a full-time, hybrid role with our client in Southern California. This position supports attorneys through every phase of employment litigation, requiring a detail-oriented professional with a passion for precision and a foundation in civil litigation. If you’re ready to dive into meaningful legal work with flexibility and growth potential, this opportunity is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Communication: Provide case updates to clients, assist with discovery processes, and conduct initial screenings or intake for new clients under attorney supervision.
  • Discovery Management: Draft discovery requests and responses (e.g., interrogatories, requests for production), prepare and serve document productions, and review hundreds to thousands of employer-produced documents to create detailed chronologies and identify key evidence (e.g., “smoking gun” documents).
  • Pleading & Motion Support: Draft initial complaints, deposition notices, and basic motions for attorney review, ensuring accuracy and adherence to templates.
  • Deposition Coordination: Communicate with opposing counsel to schedule depositions, prepare deposition notices, and draft deposition summaries post-event.
  • Litigation Coordination: Liaise with opposing counsel for discovery extensions, mediation scheduling, and other procedural agreements; interact with court staff (e.g., law clerks, courtroom assistants) to confirm filings or hearing details.
  • Document Filing: Prepare and file legal documents through legal service providers, ensuring timely submission to courts or opposing parties.
  • Trial Preparation: Organize trial/arbitration notebooks, exhibits, and case files; compile jury instructions and motions in limine; assist with mock trials and, occasionally, attend court to support trial proceedings (e.g., note-taking, file management).
  • Case Analysis: Pull highly relevant documents from productions for use as deposition or trial exhibits, maintaining meticulous organization throughout the litigation process
  • Administrative Support: Serve subpoenas, handle routine correspondence, and manage scheduling tasks as needed to keep cases on track.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certification preferred.

Experience: At least 1 year as a Litigation Paralegal or Legal Assistant in civil litigation, preferably in employment law or personal injury. Candidates with 1–3 years of experience are ideal, though those with more (e.g., 30 years) are welcome if salary expectations align.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of civil litigation procedures and legal terminology, especially in employment law.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English required; Spanish a plus).
  • Exceptional attention to detail—Ctrl+F proficiency is a baseline expectation!
  • Strong organizational skills to manage complex case files and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and legal research tools.

Attributes: Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, able to work independently and as part of a small team, and committed to producing error-free work.

Compensation: $32–$38 per hour (approximately $66,560–$79,040 annually for 40 hours/week), based on experience.

Hybrid Schedule: Minimum of 2 days per week in the office, with flexibility to work remotely the rest of the time—more office days are optional if preferred.

Benefits: 18 days of combined vacation and sick leave annually; health and retirement benefits are being finalized and expected to launch within 45–60 days of hire.

Hands-On Experience: Engage in every aspect of employment litigation, from intake to trial, with exposure to discovery, depositions, mediations, and courtroom proceedings.

Career Growth: For those eyeing a legal career, gain mentorship and observation opportunities (e.g., attending depositions or mediations); past paralegals have advanced to attorney roles, including one who passed the bar while employed.

Small-Firm Advantage: Work in a close-knit setting that values initiative and quality over micromanagement.
