About the Team:

OpenAI, in close collaboration with our capital partners, is embarking on a journey to build the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystem. The InfraDev team is central to this mission, setting the core infra strategy and implementing this vision. From site selection to the buildout process, this team sits at the intersection of commercial, technical, strategy, and operations, interacting with teams and executives inside and outside of OpenAI. 

About the Role:
Are you the type of person who is excited by massive global challenges spanning thousands of stakeholders? Does crafting and coordinating strategies that will shape the future of industries sound exciting? OpenAI is seeking an excited and ambitious technical program manager to lead our most ambitious project ever: building the world’s premier supercomputer. 

This role will focus on infrastructure strategy and site selection, an interdisciplinary field that taps into land, power, construction, sustainability, hardware, community engagement, and much more. The ideal candidate will have worked in business strategy, program management, or capital projects and have a comfort with large-scale coordination, executive communications, and driving cross-company decisions. 

This role offers an opportunity unlike any other: to shape OpenAI’s infrastructure direction and help craft the direction of the entire data center industry.

In this role you will:

  • Develop OpenAI's supercomputer location strategy and manage the site selection efforts This includes interacting with land, power, engineering, and many other stakeholders

  • Partner and coordinate with internal stakeholders such as demand/capacity management and engineering to ensure that technical and capacity demands are being met

  • Develop and model and understanding for both (a) projected supply and (b) supply optionality at an infrastructure level

  • Measure and monitor critical performance such as on-time delivery of available sites to downstream stakeholders

  • Drive funnel management and site health, including: site feasibility and viability assessments as well as site diligence modeling

  • Interface directly with site vendors, coordinating deals and negotiations

  • Partner with external vendors and downstream teams (ex. site design, construction) to de-risk infrastructure readiness 

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 5+ years of experience in program management for major projects including capital projects or hyperscaler infrastructure deployment 

  • Comfortable in managing cross-functional and cross-company teams; experience driving information and decision hygiene 

  • Experience managing, modeling, and de-risking mission-critical projects such as product delivery

  • Interfacing and leading external vendors including: engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and/or construction firms

  • Experience with deals and strategic decision points; comfort in framing business- and commercial decisions and milestones

  • Leading executive-level communications and readouts 

  • Excitement to learn and lead on a world-leading program

  • Have experience in global, matrixed organizations and vendor negotiations, consulting, and or executive decision management

  • Experience managing complicated dependencies such as logistics and or supply chains

  • Familiarity with sustainability and energy/power fundamentals

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related fields
