Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) seeks a full-time Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse for this 21st century health care provider and advocacy organization dedicated to upholding the standard for providing high quality sexual and reproductive health care, providing education that promotes informed proud and authentic sexuality, and changing the culture through proactive advocacy to ensure equality in reproductive and sexual decision making.

 

The Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing family planning patient care, pre- and post-surgical care for patients, and diagnostic ultrasonic services. The Surgical LPN collaborates with Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, Nurses, and Reproductive Health Assistants to ensure the highest level of patient care and customer serviceThe Surgical LPN will participate in a team approach to patient care and communicate effectively and sensitively with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and ages while serving as a patient advocate.


Work Schedule for Blue Team:

Wednesday        9:00am – 9:00pm

Thursday             9:00am – 9:00pm

Friday                   9:00am – 9:00pm


For the protection of patients, team members and all who enter our facilities, PPGP has made the decision to require COVID-19 vaccination for all team members, unless granted medical or religious exemption, as a condition of employment.


In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this and other administrative positions at PPGP are working remotely, when possible.  Occasional time in the office may be required for necessary tasks.  Returning to the office on a regular basis is evaluated monthly based on public health trends.  Masks, temperature checks, social distancing, and signing-in are required when working on-site.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides non-judgmental counseling to clients by providing support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues, including family planning methods, abortion services and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Conducts courteous and confidential client interviews, and accurately completes all necessary forms on patients.
  • Monitors patients pre- and post-op, recording patient care information in the EHR in a timely manner.
  • The Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols, as directed.
  • Prepares for examinations by checking equipment; reading provider orders for specific examinations; setting-up equipment; entering patient information into the system.
  • Follows prescribed safety standards in operation of ultrasound equipment. Maintains ultrasound equipment in appropriate operating condition.
  • Assists with patient education, surgery, and laboratory and recovery room duties.
  • Assists physician and health center staff with surgical procedures, as needed, and within scope of professional education/experience.
  • Assists with cleanliness and sterilization of pre-op and recovery room and equipment, patient discharge instructions on surgical post-care, handles all details of discharge including assisting patients with dressing.
  • Obtains patient’s vital statistics, draws blood, performs pregnancy tests and assists with other exams.
  • Communicates patient needs to Nurse Practitioner, Surgical Nurse Manager and/or Physician.
  • Conducts tests according to CLIA standards and adheres to OSHA regulations when handling biological material.  Performs all test control levels.
  • Administers injections and other medication under physician’s orders.
  • Provides non-judgmental counseling to clients by providing support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues, including family planning methods, abortion services and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Conducts courteous and confidential client interviews, and accurately completes all necessary forms on patients.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Adheres to all HIPAA and patient privacy and confidentiality regulations.
  • Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established productivity and revenue cycle goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Health Center Manager, Surgical Nurse Manager, Nurse Practitioner, Physician, and/or Medical Director.


Requirements:
  • Successfully operate autoclave, centrifuge and blood pressure equipment.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Possess excellent reading and comprehension skills.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and ability to work independently within a fast paced environment.
  • Adhere to PPGP’s non-discrimination policies. Effectively interact with co-workers and patients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliations, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles and sexual orientations and treat individuals with respect and dignity.
  • Effectively present information to patients, health center staff, other professionals, groups and individuals through verbal and written formats.
  • Be detailed with ability to assume responsibility and effectively prioritize multiple duties.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works effectively within a team environment, creating and maintaining collaborative relationships with others.
  • Possess ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a professional posture.
  • A Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) must maintain good physical health verified by physician and must be free from tuberculosis.
  • Travel throughout all parts of the facility, affiliate and community as needed. 


Additional Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. 
  • Professional LPN licensure in the state of Kansas required. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in clinical setting required.
  • Prior experience in surgical setting.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Women’s Health Care experience required. 
  • Relevant, prior experience with sonography preferred. 
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems required; prior working knowledge of NextGen or EPIC system preferred.
  • ACLS certification required; IV certification preferred.


Pay: $21.50 - $25.50 per hour
