Lower School Classroom Support Teacher

Rye Country Day School is seeking a Support Teacher to work across Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade classes beginning in August 2025. The candidate should be willing to work to foster the intellectual and social development of four, five, six and seven-year-old children. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches.   • Assists with student activities in various classrooms and grade levels at the discretion of the Lower School Principal and Assistant Principal
  • Assumes the role of substitute teacher, as needed, to deliver high-quality instruction and curriculum in the absence of the assigned teacher
  • Supports rules of conduct and creates a warm and welcoming learning environment
  • Maintains order in the classroom and throughout common areas of the campus, including the playground
  • Builds and maintains collaborative working relationships with colleagues and administration Contributes positively to the culture of the division
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth
  • Assist Lead Teachers with planning for different class activities
  • Work with small groups in activities under Lead Teacher’s supervision
  • Help children on an individual basis with academic, social, and emotional support and with following directions
  • Provide support to the Lead Teacher and give clerical assistance in reviewing student work and in copying and laminating materials for the classroom; with the Lead Teacher, assemble instructional materials and prepare display and bulletin board spaces
  • Maintain positive relationships with colleagues and parents; contribute in a supportive manner to the life of the community; treat information related to students as strictly confidential
  • Attend all meetings called by the Head of School as well as all division and grade level meetings
  • Share responsibilities for duties such as lunch coverage, recess, bus duty, afternoon waiting rooms, morning greeters; assist with dismissal at the end of the day

 Desired Qualifications:

  • A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience working with children in some capacity such as teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counselor
  • Comfort with technology, including a 1:1 laptop program and online course management systems
  • Interest in teaching mindfulness, nutrition, health and creative expression a plus
  • Ability to teach in a variety of settings, including a gym, outdoors and classroom
  • Strong speaking, listening and demonstrative skills in large group settings
  • A strong sense of personal responsibility for the success of every student
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm under pressure
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or a related field
