Defense/Government Program and Business Development Manager

Position Overview

The Defense and Government Program Manager is primarily responsible for managing and executing defense and government programs, ensuring that all contract requirements, technical deliverables, and milestones are met. This individual will work in direct support of the Director of Defense and Government Programs, helping drive program execution and coordinating with internal teams.

 

Additionally, the role will provide secondary support to business development efforts, helping to identify and shape new opportunities alongside the government team.


Responsibilities
  • Program Management & Execution (Primary Focus)
  • Support the Director of Defense and Government Programs in executing awarded DoD and government contracts.
  • Oversee the entire program lifecycle, ensuring technical, financial, and operational milestones are met.
  • Work closely with internal engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution of program deliverables.
  • Track program progress, report on key performance metrics, and ensure compliance with government requirements.
  • Facilitate communications between internal teams, the Director of Defense and Government Programs, and external stakeholders.
  • Manage program risks, resolve challenges, and implement process improvements to enhance execution efficiency.

  • Business Development Support (Secondary Focus)
  • Assist in identifying and shaping new government and defense opportunities in collaboration with the Director of Defense and Government Programs.
  • Provide support in customer discovery, proposal development, and strategic engagement planning.
  • Help maintain and expand relationships within DoD, military branches, and defense primes.
  • Support efforts to position Velo3D’s additive manufacturing capabilities within emerging defense programs.
  • Represent Velo3D at industry conferences, trade shows, and government meetings as needed.


Qualifications & Experience
  • Required
  • 3-5 years of DoD program management experience, preferably within weapons, hypersonics, or propulsion programs.
  • 5+ years of experience working with government contracts and defense programs, supporting program execution and management.
  • 5+ years of technical experience in engineering and project management.
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, business development, or consulting, with expertise in customer discovery, solutioning, and value realization.
  • Strong understanding of DoD acquisition processes, compliance requirements, and program structures.

  • Preferred
  • Active security clearance (or ability to obtain).
  • Background in additive manufacturing, advanced materials, or defense industrial base technologies.
  • Experience managing hypersonic programs, missile systems, propulsion, or classified defense projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and drive program execution while contributing to business development.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this full-time position is between $150,000 and $180,000. This salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position in the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as work experience, job-related skills, related education, work location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. In addition to a competitive base salary and a comprehensive benefits package, this position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and equity program, as applicable.
