Job Description

***In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Supervisor of Traffic Device Maintainer, or must have filed, taken and passed the Promotional
Supervisor of Traffic Device Maintainer civil service exam #5561, or be eligible under the 55a program.***



The Division of Traffic Operations is seeking to hire a Supervisor of Traffic Device Maintainer to serve as the Deputy to the Count Shop Supervisor in the Signal Timing and Intersection Control Unit. The successful candidate will supervise staff responsible for preparing, installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic control devices, including signs, stanchions, supports, parking meters, pavement markers, and traffic counters. The candidate will oversee the operation and upkeep of motor vehicles, marking machines, air compressors, pavement breakers, snowplows, and other field and shop equipment, and make minor adjustments as needed. The successful candidate will download and process data from the Automatic Traffic Recorders (ATR) and send the data to the Intersection Control Unit. This position involves manual labor such as loading and unloading trucks and placing traffic devices. Additionally, the role requires working from ladders and bucket trucks and may involve assisting with the routine operation, repair, and maintenance of off-street parking facilities and related equipment. The candidate may also be tasked with the removal of traffic obstructions and, when necessary, operating motor vehicles as part of the position’s duties.


- Knowledge of MS Word and Excel programs. Ability to prepare reports and to track and improve the Unit’s overall Operation.
- Preference is given to candidates possessing a CDL Class B License.
- Ability to work in all types of inclement weather.
- Possess advanced skills in the use of mechanical, electrical, power tools, related devices, and equipment.
- Preference is given to candidates with field experience; field experience as a Traffic Device Maintainer is a plus.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. At least two years of experience as a Traffic Device Maintainer working for the NYC Department of Transportation; or

2. Three years of recent, satisfactory, full-time experience maintaining, servicing and repairing mechanical equipment or experience of a nature similar to the duties described above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory
capacity.

License Requirement
At the time of appointment, all candidates must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

For appointment to certain positions, a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York, with no restrictions, is required. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
